SE DC Giant food to stop selling my name brand items

We live in Alexandria and there are public housing units a few blocks away. I pass them as I go to the Giant, but I rarely see anyone outside and ARHA runs a tight ship so they usually look reasonably maintained. A few months ago the second entrance to the Giant was closed. I groused about it to the cashier who was African American. She told me it was a "fire safety issue." A few weeks later, an Ethiopian cashier told me there was a security guard and asked if I wanted him to walk me to my car. It was about 8:30 pm and I had never noticed a guard or been asked that question. I said no but when I walked by the guard, he asked if I wanted him to watch me as I walked to my car. He said people living in the public housing had rushed shoppers in the parking lot and taken their groceries. It was a little chilling and I have switched to the Safeway at Bradlee. It also now has security guards near the parking lot, but it feels safer because it is on the second floor and it is harder to grab things and take an elevator, stairs or escalator.

This is so sad. There is such a spirit of lawlessness and no consequences since 2020.

Some of culprits are 18+.

And the those culprits under 18yrs old are from broken families with dad in jail, living with grandma, mom might not be around....you name it.

Yes it does. And the good people of the neighborhood should be hopping mad that thieves among them are causing this to happen.

Only the people living there can fix this.

No, they can't. I've lived near there and chose to go to other stores or get delivery. Instacart groceries may not be 100% reliable but at least I'm not in the middle of a crime scene.
