That Giant is the only grocery store in Ward 8.

Yes it does. And the good people of the neighborhood should be hopping mad that thieves among them are causing this to happen.

Only the people living there can fix this.

No, they can't. I've lived near there and chose to go to other stores or get delivery. Instacart groceries may not be 100% reliable but at least I'm not in the middle of a crime scene.

Hate to break it to you but there is plenty of crime associated with instacart shoppers. That’s not necessarily a better alternative.

Please say more. From my perspective, I order groceries, pay for them and have them delivered to my house. That's much better than being in a store while someone is looting it or, as someone noted is happening elsewhere in another post, getting mugged in the parking lot.

Several stories have cropped up about Shoppers scamming their clients:

In my mom’s Detroit neighborhood more deliveries marks you as someone with some means. Porch pirates abound, but they are getting more brazen too.

Someone logged into my Instacart account this spring and tried to order a bunch of groceries and an iPad to a house in suburban Atlanta. (The password was in a leak.) Took a while to regain control of the account. Kind of annoying. I was able to cancel the order and didn't wind up on the hook for the bogus charges, but still.

All that I get from those stories is use a credit card not a debit card, is there a bigger point?

Some of culprits are 18+.

And the those culprits under 18yrs old are from broken families with dad in jail, living with grandma, mom might not be around....you name it.

I take it you've never ventured into an inner city before.

And you are an expert??

Anecdotally you’re just attracting attention to your house. So crime in the parking lot today, crime on your door step in the future.

What's terrible are all the downstream consequences to this lawlessness. There will be food deserts. Even the Whole Foods in downtown San Francisco didn't survive a year. It's going to be tough for folks living in SE as every major chain pulls out.

There will never be meaningful gun control in this country. People see this stuff and how criminals get away with it and then think no one is protecting them and civilization generally. It leads to a Mad Max mentality.

And all of this breathes life into the Republican Party.

I don't know what needs to change. Whether it's laws or culture. But those teenage boys are wrecking everything for everyone.

Clearly their parents don't give a damn. Neither do their communities.

It's not a good moment for DC

The current gun laws in DC lead to a culture where the criminals are extremely aware that the rest of us are sitting ducks, there to be robbed with impunity.

It's getting to the point where skipping school every day and knocking up your 15 year-old girlfriend and then not raising your offspring can have negative consequences after a couple of generations.

Ghetto culture is the root of this

Security guards don't actually seem to intercede with shoplifters. Ive seen them step back as the thieves go running by. Why don't the anti food desert folks clamor for police substations within Supermarkets in places like this, and that the police intercede in thefts in motion?

Culture has nothing to do with it, crime is just as bad in places like Utah and Idaho.
