That’s not accurate. His cell phone records show him in the park at the same time as the deceased and also at the lake around the time her remains were found. A witness took a photo of the suspect dumping the body and security camera footage captured that too. |
Well, you could read the articles and get answers to your questions… |
So... they have a witness reporting seeing someone dump something in the woods where the body was found. The witness took pictures of the suspicious person, and cameras caught this guy's truck... well a truck similar to this guy's truck. It still seems pretty flimsy to me, unless they can evidence on the power tools? https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/09/01/missing-greenbelt-teacher-found-killed-sylla

| Smart witness |
| When I look at that location, the only pond I see is on the Andrews AFB golf course. Which seems like a very, very stupid place to dump a body, no? |
Stupid. I assume you regret this now. |
Guys probably a serial rapist/killer, the dumping the body in such a sloppy way was kind of amateur but getting into a physical fight with your sig other and then going out and taking the rage out on the first vulnerable woman you see it pretty classic. Classic case of brutal crime of opportunity. To me these are the scariest types, as you are correct, not in the race thing you mention which is kind of loaded, but in the randomness of it all. But this is exactly how these random acts occur. Angry pathological male gets an itch and someone has to pay, so he goes out hunting and finds someone who would make a good target. For this lady it’s like the worst luck ever, something she’s done 1000s of times before without incident, except that day she crossed paths with a psychopath having a bad day, and of all of the millions of people in this area today she was it. |
I also read (I forget which outlet) that he identified himself or his truck in the witness photos while they were interrogating him. |
I agree with this assessment. Horrific situation. |

Our school community is devastated. Mme Sylla was preparing to retire and head back home to the Ivory Coast. She was a very beloved, very involved teacher.
For her to be so randomly, brutally murdered is terrible. There are very specific requirements to work at DKFI, so the teachers stay for years, decades, even. And people tend to send all of their kids their, so she was really close to some of the families. This has been really hard on our kids - we’ve been given ZERO warning. There were news crews at school on the first day unexpectedly, and there was no heads up from anyone regarding the press conference today - so some of the kids learned their teacher had been dismembered that way. |
I'm so sorry. This is a horrible tragedy. Thinking of the school community today. |
Epic failure of the county leadership. I am so so sorry. We are also Greenbelt residents, and I am shocked. |
I mean it clearly is but if you’re the type to randomly murder someone you’re not thinking that clearly anyway … |
Just FYI, I didn't mean anything loaded by mentioning the race (or age) of suspect and victim. Just that from what I have seen, murders usually are committed by someone who is an acquaintance of the victim; someone in their social circle. 33 year old white men and 59 year old black immigrant female, elementary school teachers don't usually run in the same social circles. So it was just bizarre - and very random, as you said. |
| Ladies, carry a protective device when you walk/jog in lonely areas. Mace, pepper spray. Stay alert. Whether or not the apprehended guy is the murderer, there have been several women murdered on local trails. There's another recent thread about a murder(s) in a Baltimore suburb. |
