I have. She said that “This issue has unfortunately put, not all, but some, Muslim families on the same side of an issue as white supremacists and outright bigots.” I wrote that she “labeled Muslim children as linked to white supremacists.” She made these comments referring to the children who spoke that day. This isn’t 1984. Reality can’t be rewritten to suit your needs. |
People make mistakes. I’d be surprised if she is elected again. |
Are you this rude in real life? |
She has not been up for reelection since the abuse of power, a.k.a. side of the road special call to the police, and these statements. You might be right the voters might disagree, but we won’t know until the next election. |
If she is, then there is no hope. |
She may end up being the Marion Barry of Montgomery County. |
Oh the irony. You conveniently didn't include the rest of her sentence: "...however, the folks who I've talked with today I would not put in the same category as those folks." She continues: "Although, it's again complicated because they're falling on the same side of this particular issue." The issue she is speaking about is the opting out of LGBTQ-inclusive texts. There is nuance here, a lot more than is being exhibited by most DCUM posters. |

Why can no one get it through their head that the books are part of the reading curriculum - not family life or anything else. They are in addition to all of the other texts available. As far as I know READING is a core subject. |
Keep your LGBT agenda out of school. Keep your religious agenda out of school. |
The rest of the statement means very little to me. It’s simply backpedaling. I’m guessing she knew exactly how bad her first statement was the second she said it. Saying the people - she talked to - don’t fit that statement doesn’t exempt the fact she still insulted “some” Muslim families. You claim nuance. I say it was bad word choice that shows (again) bias from an elected official. I don’t understand why Mink gets so many passes. If she wants to be an activist, then be one. If you want to be an elected official, the represent your county. I don’t believe she can do both simultaneously. |
Keep your straight agenda out of school then. |
DP. I’m comfortable with no agendas in school. Wouldn’t that actually be the best way to support ALL students, by focusing on academics? |
No, she was pointing out that even though different groups can be on the same side of a particular issue, it doesn't mean they all have the same motivations. She was attempting to draw a distinction. |
The norm isn’t an agenda…it’s just the norm. (And yes, gay people are NORMAL, but heterosexual couples are the norm in our society. You cannot argue that. I mean you will, but you’d be wrong.) |
