CVS would never do it, but it is possible to be done in a non-discriminatory way. You just need clear race-neutral guidelines, such as:

-- No oversized purses or shopping bags

-- No duffel bags or backpacks

-- Face masks must be removed briefly upon entry to the store, and you must look at a camera with the mask off (FYI, this is a requirement at Maryland casinos and is strictly enforced)

Wouldn't be a perfect solution, but would probably be somewhat of a deterrent.

Finger print or eye scan upon entry. Like Disney world!

But really- need to work in the judicial and consequences side for these losers.

They are following the policies made by the MoCo authorities. The decision to tolerate crime and disorder of this sort is a policy choice. Other choices could be made, but they won’t be made by the current slate of elected officials.

We can’t fault the police. The council wants fewer police (source: Reimagining Public Safety report) and that’s exactly what we getting. Now that the council realized their efforts were misguided, they literally can’t pay people to sign up. The council made this recruitment mess.

And current police? The people complaining that police don’t show up simply don’t get it. MCPD is severely understaffed! Calls are up and there are fewer police to respond. Again: that’s on the council.

You want laws enforced? Once again, look to the council. They are currently deciding whether police can even pull people over for low-level offenses. Don’t get angry at officers when you see them “ignoring” safety issues. That’s on… you guessed it… the council.

The fact we have anybody left willing to be part of MCPD is amazing.

DP here. That depends. If carjackings are up overall, then it makes me more concerned, because that increases the chance that when I'm out, I can be carjacked.. just becasue more of those are going on now compared to before.

Police have largely adopted a "clean up crew" mentality. They have less interest in dealing with criminals these days. The criminals are more brazen, more mentally ill and on stronger drugs than ever before putting them at a greater risk than ever before. Meanwhile, you'll have a dozen people filming their every interaction looking for a social media gotcha with firing and jail time possible. Then even when they do arrest people, they are back on the streets in a day.

So what is even the point?

In other words, police are getting paid to do nothing because they hate the fact that they have to be held accountable for their conduct.

Btw how many police officers in Montgomery County have gotten fired or gone to jail for misconduct on the job? I'll wait.

The unfortunate reality is that policing doesn't work when its done in a way that is above reproach. Not enough people are willing to engage in risky encounters on the daily when the things can go wrong for them so many ways.

Its easy to criticize the police, but no one here is going to leave a cushy office job to show them how its done right. How many people here could keep their cool after they've been punched/spit on/bit and suddenly they've got hands in their pockets? Now add 10 people surrounding you with phones and jawing at you. No one wants to deal with that.

The people who find this now normalized (in liberal cities) disrespect and misbehavior need to speak up and support law enforcement and tough laws and judges.

Is Bethesda sick of stolen cars, packages, looted stores, racing crime vehicles and going to demand consequences? Including slamming a repeat crook onto the sidewalk with a zapper and cuffing them, bringing them in for a month and then community service, gps, record?

Seems like Bethesda let friendship heights go to krap. And they’re carburetors, cars, Amazon deliveries. Now their retails stores are under attack.

Waving your ringcam feed around again or this stuff and not contacting police, local and state electorate is silly.

The Bethesda/Chevy Chase side of Friendship Heights is fine. There are restaurants, stores, apartments. The DC side is more challenged - huge amount of vacant space (Lord & Taylor, Mazza, Chevy Chase Pavilion) and what seems to be daily reports of problems around the L&T area especially. Obviously the border is porous but no question that the DC side is suffering much more for some reason.

No, they were looking for a suicidal teenager, whom they found after an extensive search and then took to the hospital. They probably saved a young life. Lay off the people doing work and save your criticism for the people who think we should have fewer police.

Preventing police from wasting time on traffic enforcement is a direct action to focus limited resources towards violent crime. You are part of tue problem and not being serious about keeping our community safe.
