Makes perfect sense. Fully support

I was all set to be outraged about this, but didn't realize the above ^^. What's the big deal? Sounds like it's just regular sex ed with the option to opt-out, as parents have always had.

I can’t. DH and I were discussing the R obsession with regulating sex in every way possible the other night. Like, who cares if trans women use the same bathroom I do? And we came to the conclusion that Cons just think about sex more than we do. I’m 48 and cannot recall ever seeing a trans woman in the restroom. And if 1-2% of the population is trans, that means I am regularly crossing paths with them in the restroom. After all, Cons tell you the women’s restroom has been taken over by men in dresses. I just don’t notice/ care.

So, I guess cons try to peep into stalls in a restroom? Go into a stall and pay attention to what the people in the stalls on each side are doing? Can’t relax until they are sure there are no masculine sounds or smells? Stare at other people in line and ponder their genitalia? Cause this is an EMERGENCY folks! The fate of our nation rests on whether the person in the next stall dangles.

I guess con see two men with a toddler and you don’t picture a game of hide and seek, you picture the guys having sex? A kid can’t write a college practice essay about their 2 moms for AP Lang, because all the teacher and other students will think about is what your moms do in bed? And, of course they should not have kids, because all the kids will be able to think about is what the moms do in bed.

It’s like they assume everyone thinks about all sex all the time (like they apparently do). So, they legislate mandatory repression of their out of control sexual obsession. Because going to the bathroom has become this sexually fraught event because there could be penises anywhere! Everywhere! Maybe right in the next stall! Does it sound like penis pee-ing? Meanwhile, the rest of us are like: why doesn’t the Kennedy Center have larger women’s restrooms? The lights are going to give the five m8nute warning any second, hurry up folks.

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised Cons have a righ rate of sexual deviancy. In their world, everyone is hyperaware of genitalia and sexuality. They cant allow the straw that will break the camels back.

It's called "projection" ...they are projecting their own obsessions onto everyone else.

Almost right.

It's called proTection. Just one letter off.
Protecting our kids from the gender lobby and those who are pushing for kids to transition.
Protecting our kids from teachers who push gender crap in the classroom.
Protecting our kids from being exposed to totally inappropriate sexual content including drag shows.
Protecting our women from being forced to compete with biological men.

Look.... you folks are the ones pushing this bunch of nonsense. We are simply pushing back.

Do neither of you care about the statistically high rate of suicide and depression among LGBTQ youth? Like, it doesn't bother you at all that almost half of LGBTQ youth have considered suicide? Not even a little? Are gay teens monsters in your eyes?

Shouldn’t we be telling these kids that it’s okay to be gay? It’s okay to be same-sex attracted? It’s okay to be gender non-conforming? That those things don’t mean you were born in the wrong body? That you’re perfect as you are? Why are we telling them they need hormones and surgery? That’s the flat out wrong messaging.

In what class are teachers teaching kids that they need hormones and surgery? Specific examples l.

Any class where they read “I am Jazz” or any other book that presents the idea of being a boy or a girl as a choice rather than a biological reality is telling kids there is something inherently wrong with who they are.

Along with having those books promoted in school libraries.

You sure like that word promoted. Seems to he a favorite among cons. Apparently just existing = promoting.

Stop being stupid. This was already addressed months ago. Of course the teacher can mention his/her spouse. The bill is only referring to classroom instruction about gender/sex.

ITA. Our kids need to be educated in mathematics, history, science, technology, and language.
It is ridiculous to spend precious time discussing gender and sexuality.

And, note that discussion on gender and sexual identity are not banned in grades 4-12....

"would only allow discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in fourth through 12th grade if it is in line with state curriculum or in a health class a student can choose not to participate in." (from the link above)

And, one more thing.....

There is no such thing as "don't say gay" bill. In Florida, or anywhere else.

It's EXACTLY what it means. And you know it.

Teachers will be afraid, and stop any discussion. I can't wait until 10th graders start bringing it up and school. You know RW kids will tell their teachers, who will try to get the teachers fired.

Why should anything be off limits to talk about in school? are we not the home of the FREE and the BRAVE? I guess not.

Because some things- like sexual morals - should be taught at home, within the confines of individual family religious and other beliefs. I don’t want me kids taught about transgenderism. If you want your five year old “educated” on this subject, go right ahead.

The post is about 10th graders, not 5 year olds. That seems like a reasonable she to understand transgenderism at some level. What age would be appropriate in your opinion? I don't think I want my teenager to be an ignorant person.

Please tell us all what there is to "understand" about transgenderism. Other than... well....

You’re a Republican, so of course your mind goes to “Well..” (snicker, snicker, grooming!. Do you ever think about anything besides sex?

I think about— respecting people’s names, respecting their pronouns, respecting their right to dress in a manner they find comfortable, keeping your opinions about how god feels about someone else to yourself and not asking about surgical transition. These are the things that were addressed in my federal agency’s “how to deal respectfully with members of the general public” annual video training, which I completed yesterday. You know, the Woke crap the federal government conducted its first training on in 2018. Now we get annual refreshers. Fiscal year 2020 (starting 10/19) brought us updated business writing training on how to write for the general public— with a focus on pronouns and gender.

The federal government is the nations largest employer. So yes, I think kids interviewing for college or entering the workforce need to understand transgenderism and how to write and act appropriately.

Because trust a Republican to think the only issue with transgenderism is who do you have sex with, how often, in what position.

I am literally LOLing at the fact that you had to be "trained by your federal agency" - annually! And you just finished yesterday - in how to be respectful of other people.

Did you really not know how to behave before this training? Your mother would be embarrassed for you.

Yes. I have a 45 minute refresher every year. And yes, yesterday morning was when mine was. And yes, trans was added as a category under Trump.

And no, my mother didn’t teach me how interact in a respectful manner with trans people. She was more of the “felt honor bound to explain to them when they are going to hell” type.

And, in fact, best practices for interacting with blind, deaf, in a wheelchair, has a service animal— not covered at cotillion in the rural South.

As a parent of an elementary child who is learning about gender identity at school in an age appropriate way, I am rolling my eyes at everyone saying this shouldn’t be taught. However the school has handled this concept my kid grasps it well enough to have a meaningful conversation about it with family members.

This whole thing is yet another example of a GOP government that is so bad at meeting it’s citizens basic needs, healthcare, food, shelter, education that they have to make something up so their cult members look at the shiny object rather than considering how crappy the government that they are funding really is. I'm not an expert on this, but I have seen accounts of people who are transgender say that they have always felt like they were born in the wrong body and that they truly feel like they were supposed to be the opposite sex. Just calling themselves gender non conforming doesn't relieve the extreme discomfort they feel. They said that they felt this way when they were very young, before anyone else knew or before they really understood what that meant. I'm sure that's not everyone, but for at least some it is something they always felt even before they had the words for it. It's not like it was a topic of conversation until relatively recently. No one was planting the idea in people's heads back when no one talked about it at all.

I don't agree with anyone pushing kids to transition, to the extent that it may be occurring. But people who truly feel they were supposed to be a different gender probably won't feel any better just being told they're perfect the way they are.

I felt like that my entire life, I always knew. I was also never pressured to transition. You can see the real pressure that's happening in this very thread. It's pressure to NOT medically transition (this thread and others like it are full of those replies while I see zero that say the opposite). This also holds true in real life, the only pressure I ever received was to NOT transition. Family, friends, even therapists when I was younger. Being integrated into society as a working adult and living around people that have seen me living as my old gender also puts pressure on a person. No one came to me and said I should do this. I wanted to do this. I've always wanted this.

After transition and meeting more trans people, I've never met a single person that tried to pressure someone else to transition. We understand what it's like to inhabit a body we aren't comfortable with and don't push others do medically transition. Plus it's just not an easy process. Just coming out is hard. Telling everyone in your life that you're transitioning was one of the most difficult things I've ever done in my life. I know people that were on hormones for over a year before they started telling anyone. Trans women start to grow breasts by six months. They were wearing baggy clothes to hide their body and even then people started to wonder what was happening. The fear of coming out kept them socially closeted. No one tells us to take hormones or to come out of the closet before we're ready. That's not how we support one another. The opposite from people that tell us to "just be comfortable living the way you were because that's what god wants" are the ones that exert pressure.

Well, when your teachers and administrators start to encourage transition behind our backs and tell us that we, as parents, don’t matter, we tend to push back.

Does suicide matter in this equation?

Let me pose this more clearly- pro trans activists rely on the potent argument that if dysphoric children will be prone to suicide if their ideated-gender is not affirmed.

What if the opposite were true- as a thought experiment. I see some of these transitioned young people and I think they will end up suiciding. If that’s right, is it a sound basis to refuse to transition them?
