I’m Gen X/1970/53 w/ DC ages 24/20/17 I will do the math for you: mom @ 29 |
If they’re older teens 16-19 she was in her mid to late 30s when they were born, not unusual in this area. |
Some gen x are almost 60. The youngest gen x are mid 40s. So there may be numerous gen x on DCUM and that may be the largest generational group on gen x but majority of them are not “new parents.” Very few people have kids for the first time between ages 43-58, which is the age range of gen x. |

Late Gen X and have a 3 year old. I had my only child in my early 40s after a multi-year fertility battle. I am aware that becoming a mom would likely have been easier if I'd been in a position to have a child earlier but those are not the cards life dealt.
My oldest sibling is 6 years older than me; her kids are 20 and 24 years old. Most of the parents Ive meet at in DC school are millennials. The most notable difference I have observed has been in name choices -- more last names as first names (Sloane, Carter) or nicknames as full names (Ellie, Jack). |
NP. What?? Having 13-19 year olds in your 50s is not abnormal. |
Np and how was the last post remotely lashing out? It was just a question. Your sensitivity about being an older mom is showing via your response overreaction. |
Climb down off your high horse … as a high school teacher whose students’ parents are mostly Gen X, yall have no room to talk about helicopter parenting |
| 46 y.o. with a 2 year old. So, yes. |
|
This site seems mostly composed of people who do not live in the area.
Richmond & Charlottesville people, overseas people, Philly people, and west coast people. Very few from DC itself, and not many from the DMV. |
LOL. It was totally lashing out. “WOW. Was that on purpose?” Why would anyone be “sensitive” about having kids in their 30s, which is pretty standard? |
No, it’s just a transient area. Lots of people who live here who have close family & friend ties to where they were born. |
| I'm mid 30s (millennial) with a 2yo. |
| 54. My kids are 20 and 24. Been on DCUM since 2002 |

Ha. No. GenX (53) and husband GenX (52). My GenX siblings are 55 and 57.
We are almost empty nest. GenX is 1965-1980. The very youngest are 43 years old and the oldest are 58. |
| My GenX sister (57) is a new grandparent. Son is 30. |
