Is this forum comprised mostly of Gen x people who are new parents?

I am late gen X, 50, and dear god, I hope I would hope not to be a new parent at this age

I don't know where this shibboleth comes from, but it's wrong.

OED, comprise, v, sense 8c "passive. To be composed of, to consist of."

1874 Art of Paper-Making ii. 10 Thirds, or Mixed, are comprised of either or both of the above.
1928 Daily Tel. 17 July 10/7 The voluntary boards of management, comprised..of very zealous and able laymen.
1964 E. Palmer tr. A. Martinet Elements Gen. Linguistics i. 28 Many of these words are comprised of monemes.
1970 Nature 27 June 1206/2 Internally, the chloroplast is comprised of a system of flattened membrane sacs.

[GenX, 47, one thirteen year old, and I would not that my family were comprised of new babes at this advanced age.]

My BIL and SIL met in their mid-30s and had trouble conceiving. They ultimately had to have their child by gestational carrier last year. They were 44 and 43. You should be careful about making such sweeping statements.

So pp wasn't wrong. Something was indeed wrong. It's not necessarily their fault, and I'm glad things ultimately worked out that they could be parents, but the fact is, there was something wrong.
You should be careful about trying to admonish people that are actually stating the truth.

I'm xennial (born 1980). I had a child at 38, just one. So I guess if you consider me Gen X, then yes I am a Gen X new parent, as my kid is only 4 years old.

Sometimes I identify with the Gen X people on this sight and sometimes not. Same with Millennials. There's such a big difference between someone born in 1970 versus someone born in 1990, and since I'm smack between them, I sometimes understand them and other times feel like I don't fit either place. I have older siblings who are definitely Gen X and a younger sibling who is definitely a Millennial. I feel like I"m neither, or both.

So much irony there.

December 77 here, and I couldn't agree more. I am glad the Xennial subpopulation was identified because I could never figure out why I didn't feel like part of Gen X. I personally feel generations are too broad and should be condensed to a five-ten year window/by decade.

I think this is key. i'm a pp who is 47 with teens/early 20s kids. I'm mostly on here looking at travel, a little politics, home improvement/real estate, and elder care topics. If OP is mostly looking at topics related to babies and toddlers, she won't see my posts.

+1 from me, a 50-year-old with a college freshman and an 8th grader. Been here since my oldest was born and it was a listserv.

I guess since gen-Xers could technically be great grandparents now, anyone with kids under 18 would be considered “new parent”.

I'm 1978, so at the tail end of genX. Kids are 9 and 12. I do feel like I'm right around the core demographic.

I’m 43 with a 13 and 8 year old.

WOW. What that on purpose? Or due to difficulty finding a partner and/or conceiving?

From reading here for years it seems that most posters are in their 40s, the next most early 50s, then late 30s and more women than men, most of them with children at home or young adults. Just my guess.

Me too. They’re total helicopter parents too.

Lashing out because you’re mad you didn’t have any fun in your 20s. Sad.
