| Wondering because most seem to be in their mid to late 40s. What age did you have your first kid and how old are you? |
| Do you mean the Off Topic forum or all of DCUM? If you mean DCUM, in General Parenting, Infants..., and Elementary, I've definitely seen an increase in Millennial parents over the last four years. |
|
What? I'm Gen X (age 51) and my kids are old - they are 18 and 21. I'm about to be an empty nester. Not a new parent.
I'm sure some people had their kids later than me but I was 30 with my first so most of my friends are similar age, Gen X, and empty nesters. |
| If you’re Gen X and a “new parent,” something is VERY wrong! |
| It is full of Carrie Bradshaws, yes. |
| No. I think a majority of the posters ARE Gen X, but they’re not new parents, their kids are high school or college aged. If anyone posting here is talking about having elementary kids or younger they are almost certainly older millennials (1982-1989ish). |
I’m a solid 1972 Gen x’er and I’ve got an elementary schooler and a middle schooler. Of my closest DC friends who all had kids the same age, I was the middle of the pack for parental age. Having kids in your late 30s isn’t rare. |
| 46 with a 12 and 14 year old. The idea of being a new parent in my 40s makes me shudder. I’m tired. |
This is me! I have a 13 and 11 year old. Just turned 54 yesterday. |
| I’m 46 and have a 19yo and 15yo. |
| Nope. Millennials |
Same. DCUM has a range of GenX parents and increasingly more millennials. And some Boomers trying to stir the pot. |
DCUM will call you a child bride/teen mom. |
| I’m Gen x 49 have a 21 year old |
| GenX: had kids in late 30s. They are now high school age. I get the impression that most of the parents of younger kids are millennials. |
