I wouldn't convict this guy anymore than the Texas guy. "Prank" has basically just become an excuse to harass and assault strangers for internet points. If the rumor mill is correct, this guy's prank was a "citizen's arrest" type deal. The victim took it as an assault/attempted kidnapping rather than a prank. Hope we get to see the seized video some day.

Forget everything else...do you even hear what you are okay with? Shooting people for stealing a car...after it has been stolen. Shooting someone for being an a$$hole. I don't care if it is a gun, a knife, your fists; you're okay with a world in which we get to just kill the people who piss us off. That is insane.

I would have preferred for both men who got shot to have had lesser corrective interventions earlier in life, but our institutions have largely abdicated those responsibilities. We make every excuse for them, and in many ways reward anti-social behavior, so I am not one bit surprised we're seeing a new generation of Bernie Goetz re-enactors.

If we let crazy people high on all sorts of synthetic drugs wander around stabbing people, don't be surprised when people shoot crazy acting and aggressive people that come at them. If the police basically treat auto theft as a private matter, then don't be surprised when people start addressing it in a private manner.

In other words stop complaining about the world you created, because the consequences were obvious.

People act like property crime is nothing. For A LOT of people, stealing a car is stealing someone’s livelihood and security. Stealing from an independently owned store is taking their ability to care for their kids and pay their rent. There’s no “just stealing” about it and none of these guys was Jean Valjean.

It si is still not a capital punishment offense. You have no idea the history of the car robber and the dumbass youtuber is a 21 year old kid who does stupid, dumb stuff. Also not punishable by death. Everything else I biolded above I am not even responding to...it is over the top hyperbolic delusions. I will say, I did not create a world in which it is okay to summarily kill people--you loons have.

+1. There are too many people who lack an empathy chip r view life like a video game. The car is air tagged. You aren’t going to lose it. Call the cops. Even if it takes a few hours, you can still track it. Or wait until it’s parked and drive off. Of give the driver the opportunity to surrender and don’t speak up from behind. It’s a human life and we are all entitled to due process.

So now do the shooting victims’ families get to shoot the original shooters?

If they are in the scene, they can in “self defense” or “ defense of others”. And they should. What’s good for the goose…

The Texas guy had to hunt down his car and victim, so I’m not sure why they have to be on the scene.

Beyond that you can’t be judge, jury, and prosecution. We have laws here. One person acting illegally doesn’t mean another can act illegally.

Isn’t that the point? Texas says it isn’t illegal.

Lots of things aren't punishable by death, but if a criminal is caught in the act, lethal force is justified. Texas just happens to extend justification to further cover property crimes than other states.

That’s because vigilantism never yields results, it just creates more crime.

Right because when you get your car back it is in pristine condition. People are frustrated that the police are either unwilling or unable to assist with things like this and things matter to people. I’m not saying it is right but I understand the frustration and it is totally because they don’t feel like they have other options. It’s crazy the people have more sympathy for the criminals now than the victims.

Haha, no, of course not. I don’t even need to click on this link to know it was a white male shooter and a brown “criminal” and that’s why nothing is going to be done.

Silly you! Governor Abbott stopped all rapes in the state of Texas.

It’s crazy that the police are so bad at their jobs across the board and that instead of looking for reforms to a broken profession, you’re defending vigilantism.
