For fun: Let's be the worst Thanksgiving ever

I am the table with fewer guests each year that passes; a sighing of missed smiles and conversations. A feast that is too vast for the guests and a holiday picture with too many missing faces. I miss them.

(yup, that really was me a few years ago LOL)

Turnips aren’t even from the Americas.

Hey there, Covid! It's me, influenza strain A. This is the best Thanksgiving I've had in years!

RSV checking in here. Did you know I’m not just for kids anymore? LOL!

Y’all actually did ruin our thanksgiving. Currently sitting in the hospital with my 9 month old who was RSV. This thread has brought some cheer to my day

Hope everything is okay and that your dd is home very soon. Glad this thread is a distraction.

I’m dh’s 11yo crybaby nephew who cries at everything and anything when he doesn’t get his way.

Same. I miss the big family gatherings of my childhood. It’s DH and me and 2 sullen teenagers.

I am the loud, unruly children, with parents who sleep in and then don’t feed us, and instead rely on grandma and the unmarried aunt to do all the child-related stuff all weekend.

I am the hotel reservations made by the 30-something, unmarried, childless aunt, for the next “holiday at home”.

I can see why you are unmarried and childless. You should have been in a hotel this whole time.

I am the elderly Dad, with Parkinsons and related dementia, who walked (unseen) through the kitchen this AM and pressed the OFF button on the oven, because 'the time was wrong'. No, it wasn't 4:25, it was 425 degrees.

I am elderly Mom, who asked 'do you smell turkey?' an hour or so later-we think.

I am the middle aged daughter, who ran to the oven and opened it and knew when my glasses did not fog up, that it wasn't on. I stopped, took a breath and thought about what to do (toss the turkey, order a pizza, put the turkey on the grill? LOL) and announced that the meal would be 'at least an hour later'. Turned the oven back on and hoped for the best-and it turned out soggy but done and good! Never a dull moment!

I am the type A sister who made everyone run a Turkey Trot 5k last year. She ran it this year with spouse only because the rest of us refused. Now she’s making passive aggressive remarks about the importance of balancing health and fitness with meals.

Pray tell why is this “fun?”

Commenting on food only, but those food dishes sound awesome.

I’m the herb roasted turkey breast, bought specifically so only re-heating was involved, but I am completely uncooked (thanks Balducci catering!)and will now delay everything by at least two hours.

Sitting at home coughing my guts out with covid while my asymptomatic daughter bops around in the sick room. Thanks for the laughs

What an awesome aunt, not even helping a bit and giving parents a break once or twice a year for the holidays. When I was an unmarried aunt, I loved every minute of it and my sister and BIL appreciated that I recognized it was a rare opportunity for them to take a little more time for themselves.
