Is Tulane the Ivy League of the South?

No doubt Tufts is objectively more selective but I don't think it is perceived as "better" in most of the country. Tulane has strong name recognition. There are not any Grisham books involving Tufts, are there?

Tulane is a terrible safety school because they manipulate rankings by taking anyone with a pulse in ED1 and ED2. Bates does the same thing. That doesn’t make them Ivy Caliber. In fact, it means they are willing to choose a less talent class to game USNWR

Wake Forest is not a safety school. You have no idea what you are talking about. Wake is ranked 29th, while Tulane is ranked 44th. Huge difference. Wake is in the range of Chapel Hill and Tufts. Tulane is in the range of Brandeis, Northeastern, and Cases Western. Based on our school's scattergram, Wake accepts numerous students with 3.7gpa and above, while Tulane accepts numerous students with 3.3gpa and above.

OMG,you must be joking. Baylor but maybe Vanderbilt? Baylor is not exactly an elite school. Baylor University admissions is more selective with an acceptance rate of 57%. Half the applicants admitted to Baylor University have an SAT score between 1160 and 1350 or an ACT score of 25 and 32.

Vanderbilt University admissions is most selective with an acceptance rate of 7%. Half the applicants admitted to Vanderbilt have an SAT score between 1480 and 1570 or an ACT score of 34 and 35.


My kid is at Michigan, so no real dog in the fight. Other than I hate stupid people.

I would argue that Michigan is tougher to get into then some of the ivy leagues.

I thought the Big 3 only had amazing students. Tulane having multiple kids from Sidwell, which doesn't rank, would seem like a positive...
Heck, once the hooked Ivy and top SLAC kids are off the board and Chicago has taken a bunch ED2, there are not too many left!

If the bottom third is going to a school like Tulane it’s a tremendous sign that they’re doing something right at that school. However I seriously doubt that is the case. You can check the Sidwell website for their matriculation.
