Admission for athletic recruits

Anonymous
Is there a source that publish gpa/sat scores for recruited athletes? Am I to assume, on average, they are on the lower end?

They are on the lower end at the Ivies. The data around the Harvard case is illuminating for those who care to review. Basically most of their recruits are what they rate an Academic 3 which includes scores in mid-high 600s and low 700s (for a section).

Asians are not URM - you know that, right?

Some countries in asia should be URM.

Not most.

The SAT is becoming less relevant for admissions. Check the trend.

NCAA still requires scores I do believe---and the schools.

Nope. NCAA has waived test requirements through 2024.

WHOA. That is HUGE!!

This must be killing junior colleges that have thrived recruiting non-qualifiers.

This really fails the "so what" test. Athletes with an average SAT of 1397 are not stupid - about 93rd percentile. They are certainly capable of doing the academic work. And meanwhile they have skills and capabilities that the "regular" students do not have.

I guess Yale and UPenn do want athletes who also have high SAT scores. Very revealing.

Yale and Upenn are Ivy League.
UVA is not
UChicago is not

Every athlete everywhere in every sport knows you have to have grades and scores for Ivy League schools. Not so much for any other D1 if you are good enough.

This is not news.

That's private information.

JHU = D3
Not the same answer for D1 schools.

Every.single.college my kid has had communcation with and every online registration on the school's recruiting websites asks for GPA & Test scores for SAT or ACT.

The communication my son received back from the coaches he's in contact with this FAll was---send us your test scores when you have them...and a transcript. These are schools in the top 20-25.

We were told the same for the Ivies (D1 schools).

So if I am understanding correctly, despite the test-optional policy, we should expect that the Ivy League schools reaching out to our student-athlete ("top" sport like football/basketball/lacrosse) will request ACT/SAT scores? Also, when should we expect Ivy League recruiting to end practically speaking? End of junior year? End of first semester senior year?

Thank you!

It's for Tennis. See what would happen if the number 1 ranked mens basketball recruit wanted to attend Yale with a 1200 SAT

Hell would freeze over first.
