I’d ban any dog with 70% or more pit and require those with any pit blood to be spayed/neutered.

All dogs should be neutered and spayed. I am against banning any dogs because it is wrong to blame all dogs.

OP here. About 80% of all non-pit dogs are spayed/neutered. About 20% of all pit bulls are. Pit bulls aren’t dogs. Do you ever read posts on twitter or reddit about people with pit bulls, the anxiety that the semi responsible owners have, knowing that their anxiety bomb dogs are aggressive (or “reactive” as they’re trying to call them now, like it’s the other dog’s fault that the pit bull just starts getting aggressive), that they can’t be left home alone because they destroy dry wall and furniture, that they’re master escape artists.

Pit bull apologists frequently claim that pit bulls are the “most abused” dog and offer that as a rationale for how aggressive and violent these dogs are. That’s false. They were bred for aggression, they were bred for blood sport. They are not, nor have they ever been intended for, family dog life.

And I have known actually abused dogs. Very few of them become violent themselves. Most of them are very fearful, somewhat neurotic but not violent dogs. It’s a lie that most pit bulls are abused and if they are, what does that say about pit bull owners? It’s Schroedinger’s pit bull owner.

It’s become a whole culture. Lots of people get suckered into getting them. Why would a prospective dog owner assume a shelter was lying to them about the breed characteristics or the bite history? They wouldn’t. And with a literal pit bull lobby that pumps out propaganda, propaganda that obscures the truth about this breed, how would they be able to find the truth? Wikipedia used to have a list of dog bites assembled by breed. It’s been removed, and not for lack of sourcing or anything substantial like that.

People should know the truth about this breed. When they decide to go for it, they go for it. It’s not a matter of a simple “nip” or even a relatively simple puncture wound; pit bulls tear and gnash and preferentially go for the neck and face. Why? What kind of “dog” does that? Dogs are supposed to complement our lives, supposed to be good, loyal companions who can be trusted not to rip off your child’s face. OP.

The parents are victims of misinformation. The pit bull PR campaign is mind-bogglingly effective. I have no idea why, but it is.

It really is. It supports the gruesome sport of dog fighting also because these are the “extras”.

My idiot neighbors have a pit bull that is “so sweet” It makes me so nervous when the toddler next door wanders over.

I’m not victim blaming a 2yo and a baby but if the baby rolled on a dog, or pulled it’s tail, or the 2yo poked one with a stick or something, dogs will react. Two dogs together get the pack mentality and all hell breaks loose. This could happen with any breed. Pitt bills happen to be large strong dogs..

And this right here is the problem. People like this poster should be banned from owning dogs. “I’m not victim blaming,” then you proceed to blame a 5 month old and 2 year old for being mauled to death by dogs that any reasonable person can admit should not be around children.

Seriously, PP, you are sick.

That’s not what the poster is saying. Children can absolutely trigger pets into aggression. That’s why it’s irresponsible to have them around these large, aggressive breeds.

That’s why these pit bull threads are stupid.

Someone: Oh, my gosh, how sad!! I wonder what the details are?

Someone else: OMG, YOU ARE SICK!!! ALL PITBULLS NEED TO BE KILLED!!!

For the record, I think pit bulls should be regulated because there are too many idiot owners. But, some people in this thread are beyond any reasonable discussion.

It is absolutely sick to defend having aggressive dogs around babies and toddlers.

Well the mother may die from her injuries. Also it sounds like she didn’t want the dogs and her husband refused to get rid of them. I know it might be easy to say “well she should have taken her kids and left then” but (1) this guy sounds like an a$$hole and often that personality profile is abusive, and (2) she may not have had the financial means or family support to leave.

It’s clear the dad was the one who is most culpable.

Looks like she’s in stable condition, but I’ll bet she wishes she had died with them. I can’t imagine going through an excruciating physical recovering while grieving the violent death of TWO children. Not to mention, how does a marriage survive this, especially if she blames the husband for keeping the dogs. Wow, just horrific all around.

Now you are getting weird. Pit bulls arent dogs? What are they then? I know plenty of pit bull owners who are NOT nervous about their dogs

Please educate yourself or at the very least stop spreading misinformation. You do know Michael Vick's dogs who were forced to fight became loving family pets?

A woman in my neighborhood owns a pit bull and runs a home daycare. Not licensed. How she has any clients is beyond me.

How did the mom not manage to save one? Baby obviously a goner but surely enough time to grab kitchen knife to save toddler?!! The attack lasted 10 min and mom badly bitten. Why didn’t she grab a knife or a heavy object to bash head of dog?

I love dogs and I love that my kids are growing up with pets — a lab/hound mix (actual, not a pit mix that is called something else) and a cat. But there is no potential benefit from owning a pet that would ever make me take the risk (even if small from no that particular dog) of having a pit, rottie, or any other dog that could do serious damage to my kids. This is just heartbreaking. What were these parents thinking?

I guarantee there was literally nothing left of that baby. Nothing.

Anonymous wrote:Those of you supporting a pit bull “ban” are not only unrealistic - you are classist. You know what I support? A breeder ban. We don’t need ANY more dogs voluntarily brought into existence, either pit bull or designer.

The vast majority of dog deaths are by Pit bulls. What’s classist about saying that?
because they are the most mistreated, abused dog breed. Pay attention.

All the more reason to put them out of their misery.

Eff you, pit bull owners. They should be spayed and neutered out of existence.

F You.

Found the delusional pit owner.

One of the officers is reported to have vomited at the scene.
