You can’t be serious. Calling them by their given names, rather than their titles, was the snub. |
Charles' slimmed down monarchy always included both his sons. Hence this picture. What he, and William, didn't account for was a wife they didn't like or didn't fit with their vision of a dim klutzy Fergie-like figure.

Only in certain circumstances. Harry and Meghan use Mountbatten-Windsor because they have suspended the use of the title “His/Her Royal Highness.” Those who have HRH titles don’t use a surname. Apparently William and Harry chose to use “Wales” when they were in school and in the military, but it wasn’t really protocol, it was just something they decided to do. https://www.royal.uk/royal-family-name |
That’s ridiculous. He called William and Catherine by their given names, as well. |
DP. I’m not going to read anything into Charles speech. I noticed he didn’t mention support from his siblings at all and mentioned MY mother at least three times. So it felt a little self-centered but he’s a monarch so I can’t say much on that either. |
This is all a part of the process for what the peaceful transition of head of state looks like for the UK. The title changes are automatic upon death. The changes should be implemented as such. |
the original name was Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, but they changed it when they they were at war with Germany in WWI. |
Even then, those with HRH titles and the monarch/consort didn’t use last names. |
I thought they didn’t want their titles anymore? |
They wanted out of the royal family, so they should be fine with being out. |
They changed it because the name was not English Brittish royal family is German, Windsor is an invention. Mountbatten is also an invented name. Original was Battenberg Just think that there was a time when they had to change their centuries old name just to be English enough for the English |
Oh, they use their titles. One prime example was when Meghan wrote a letter to Nancy Pelosi in support of paid parental leave, signing the letter from the “Duchess of Sussex.” They’ve caught a lot of flack for continuing to use their titles. |
Mountbatten and battenburg mean the same thing. It’s like how some immigrants changed their last names from Weiss to white. |
It diminishes Meghan to rely on her title. |
The title is her main identity. |
