The new reign of King Charles III has begun

From a "personal drama" perspective, Charles is in such a bizarre position. Imagine being born to have exactly one job, but not being able to take it until your mom died. And in the interim, not really allowed to do anything else. Like even if he wanted to, it's not like he could have gone and become a doctor or an airline pilot or started a business (I know he didn't want to do these things but also he was raised to not want them so it's questionable whether he really had a choice at all). Instead he had to sit around for 50+ years to do the one thing he's supposed to do.

And now he finally has that job and many people hope he finds a way to abolish himself, or at least trim the role down so much that potentially future monarchs could have other careers and lead more normal lives. And he's in his 70s.

I'm American and not some royal family fetishist. I just find the personal perspective fascinating because it's a very singular position to be in. I simply cannot imagine being in that role, and I have a good imagination! It fascinates me.

I think he will get to work slimming down the monarchy and assets. He knows it's the only way it will survive.

You think he’ll start selling off palaces? Stop supporting 100 cousins and only have the immediate King/Spouse and heir living on tax dollars like Spain?

I think he will start doing that, yes. I don't know that the monarchy supports "100 cousins." There are only a few working royals. Just because they have titles doesn't mean they don't support themselves, although many have their ow family money.

The King of the Netherlands is a certified pilot who flies commercial airlines. So if he wanted to - he could.

I'm not surprised by negativity here, but I think King Charles will do a good job. He's smart and has a good sense of humor. His ideas regarding making organic food more accessible are good.He also understands that streamlining the monarchy is critical for its survival (although I personally think the monarchy should be abolished).

It's just a figurehead job and he can do it.

Yes, they support them by giving them free or extremely low rent living accommodations in homes in the best parts of London and the U.K. that would normally cost $50,000 or more a month to rent considering the location, estates, and lodging they incur.

Prince and Princess Michael of Kent
Princess Alexandria
The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester
Princess Beatrice and her kids
Princess Eugenie and her kids
Zara Tindall et al
Peter Phillips et al

Then there’s the unconfirmed/not in an actual palace people who have no lucrative jobs like Sarah Chatto and the Earl of Snowden. She was also paying for the separate housing of long-term servants like Angela Kelly.

He looks good…maybe even more confident?

Charles has been monarch in all but name for several years already. It’s not rocket science. He’ll be fine.

I agree. Sure, he's had some scandal in his past but in recent years, he seems like the level-headed one in the family. And I like Camilla.

No one’s kissing his fat fingers - we don’t know where they’ve been

He wasn’t exactly a spitfire before all this - that was part of the problem. He let himself be railroaded.

Actually if you watch that video clip above someone did indeed kiss his fat fingers.

The Queen wrapped up her affairs so efficiently. Camilla appointed as Queen Consort was Elizabeth’s gift to her son. What other option is there? If Elizabeth died suddenly, what would Camilla’s title be? I guess it was determined long before the Queen officially announced it. Would Philip as king grant her a higher title or is there a default royal title?

He’s supposed to give a speech sometime soon - let’s see what he has to say…and do in an economic crisis right off a pandemic and behind Brexit.

This has been covered ad nauseum. Its whatever the monarch decides. Elizabeth chose not to give Phillip the title of King. Not that long ago, she announced it was her wish for Camilla to be named Queen Consort (aka given the title of Queen) when Charles ascended.

Its all been decided, and with Elizabeth's blessing.
