The new reign of King Charles III has begun

He’s calling an accession council tomorrow. The first one potentially televised in history or at the very least - photographed.

Meh. Formalities. The only interesting point is the flags will be raised to full staff, and then lowered again.

That’s the most boring part to me. I can’t wait to see the privy council forced to dress like stage peacocks - it’s usually only for parliament.

Can you imagine they all had to rush together and kiss Charles’ ring and pledge loyalty to their new King? This is what we fought against in the USA.

No one’s kissing his fat fingers - we don’t know where they’ve been

You know he he doesn’t have any real power right? It’s not a power vacuum or unstable in any way. It’s a constitutional monarchy.

Let’s give Charles a chance. He just might surprise us.

Re: the monarchy - That’s up to the Brits. It’s their history/tradition. It’s also a big driver of their economy in terms of tourism. I’m sure that plays into the equation.

He’s 73. There’s no surprises there, he is who he has been for the last fifty years as an adult.

The monarchy isn’t. The buildings are. And before you ask - places like Kensington Palace and Windsor Castle are heavily outranked in terms of tourism popularity and dollars by unoccupied buildings like Hampton Court Palace and the Tower of London.

Kind of like how Versailles is the number one tourist attraction in France and hasn’t seen a King in 500 years.

I give him 5-7 years, tops.

Ignoring the salacious aspect of this post, I agree Charles has very fat hands/fingers which makes me wonder if he has a health condition of some sort.

For a man who literally never has to lift a finger, why is it that he has hands that look like a 30 year blue-collar laborer?

I am surprised by all of the negativity.

I think he will get to work slimming down the monarchy and assets. He knows it's the only way it will survive.

Note, the monarchy is not what drives tourism. Versailles drives plenty of tourism to France with a monarch. The castles and history is what drives tourism, nobody is going to England to see Charles.

You think he’ll start selling off palaces? Stop supporting 100 cousins and only have the immediate King/Spouse and heir living on tax dollars like Spain?

It’s genetic. His niece has the same condition.
