Teacher, but pet sitting during the summer. Damn, some of you have really dirty homes

I cringe for you, showing your ass in public like this.

Since you are being hired to do a service and entrusted with a pet and entry into a private home, as a professional, you shouldn’t judge and talk about anything personal in their employ. You wouldn’t shame or publicly complain about a student’s needs or challenges, the same curtesy and respect applies.

I... don't think you know what public shaming means.

If you're saying that people should not be able to ever complain about anything job related on the internet, even when they provide absolutely zero identifying information? That's nuts.

If you feel personally shamed by this post, it probably resonates. Because you need to clean your home -- or hire someone to do it for you.

Why do you care? It’s not your house and you’re not there as a guest.

I own my condo 100% outright, but thanks AND I don't need to live in filth.

I don't need the money - I have a few side hustles in the off season, and taking care of pets is easy pay. Why not? But look, I've had pet sitters before - how hard is it to tidy up? A little messiness is one thing, but some of you should be ashamed. Clean your damn homes. If your homes are so expensive, surely you can afford someone to do it for you?

Oooohhhhhh, a *condo*! Do you mean like the one I owned when I was 26? Aww, cute! That’s a cute look for you.

DP. I’m sorry that your money is all you have going for you and that you’re so insecure. Must be hard. Hugs.

So you’re one of the pigs. Got it.

Did you know you can clean your house AND hold down a job? Amazing, I know.

And if teachers’ jobs are so cushy, feel free to quit your overpaid job and get in there and show them how it’s done. Fool.

Curious, OP.

1. Do you understand that some people can't help themselves, and may be hoarders, or have ADHD, and it's a miracle they have good jobs that pay for such homes? We are in that hoarder/ADHD situation. I can't clean up all the mess my husband produces, and he refuses to acknowledge he has a problem. I just do my best to contain it. Thankfully my friends understand my predicament.

2. Do you imagine being in a situation one day with a family of your own where it will be challenging to keep up with some tasks? Do you consider your own flaws to be less bad than this apparently terrible flaw of not keeping a 100% clean and tidy home? If that's the case, do you accept that others have different priorities and that this is OK too?

Just wondering about your framework of ethics in posting such a judgmental post.

Hi there! Employed person with ADHD here, who still manages to have a clean home. Shocker.

My house is currently filthy. I haven’t cleaned in months.

I have OCD so this is a big deal for me.

If I have anyone over, I’ll clean up but for now, idgaf and it’s actually really nice.

I'm not talking a pile of papers/mail, or dishes from that day, or kids toys spread out on the floor. Some of y'all are gross. It must have been at least a month since you vacuumed or picked up after yourselves.

I just did drop-ins for a couple that recently recovered from covid (mild) - you'd think being home all the time, they could have tidied up a little. Nope. Clearly not for quite some time.

Your pets are cute, but some of you should be ashamed of yourselves. I myself am a pet owner - level up and clean up, guys!

I think you should be ashamed for being so judgmental.

Everyone has their own standards for housekeeping. I hire biweekly cleaners, clean surfaces and floors between cleanings, and tidy nightly, but I have young kids and generous relatives and unfortunately that means a lot of crap for which I don’t always have the energy to sift and purge. I would be mortified if I found out my dog sitter was talking smack on my housekeeping. Not only mortified, but violated and mad. I’d never hire you again and I’d spread the word why far and wide.

Mind you don’t give off judgmental vibes offline, OP.

I too would be mortified if I gave someone a reason to call my house dirty and messy. And I wouldn’t tell anyone I wouldn’t rehire a pet sitter because they called my house dirty and messy. Doubly mortifying.

Don’t fight nastiness with the exact same brand of nastiness.

Dirty counters, old dishes in the sink, water bowls, debris on the floor? Nasty.

Um, all pet homes have a water bowl on the floor. I hope.

Wow, there are some seriously defensive filthy mofos here

I checked on a colleague's cat for the past week, but never again. Sometimes you just don't know how people are at home. If you don't take out the trash before you go out of town, and if you can write words in the dust on a shelf, and there's more than 1 food spill on your stove... you need to clean your damn home.

I've done pet sitting before as a side hustle, and lots of people have a decently clean home, but there are definitely those people with food crusties from their pet food that haven''t been cleaned up in at least a week if not a month. And they reuse the same bowl without cleaning it... for nasty periods of time.

This has nothing to do with "cleaning for the pet sitter." I mean, aren't some of you grossed out by your own filth?! You live in it. You're not bothered by how you live at home??? Are you immune to the way your house smells? I feel sorry for some of y'alls pets. I've had pets my whole life, lead a busy life, and still make time to keep my home fairly clean. Trash gets taken out every couple of days max, pet food bowls get washed daily, and litter emptied daily as well. The bare minimum can go a long way.
