Teacher, but pet sitting during the summer. Damn, some of you have really dirty homes

You've had covid for the last year? And why are you having a pet sitter come into your home if you're infected?

Whenever I think my house is messy, I got visit the FT working mom's house next door. Scary stuff...

I think OP hit a nerve.

Where I've seen it is videos posted on the internet. Funny video of the cute dog or kid or whatever, but the floors are filthy and/or there's clutter and trash all over the floor. Kitchens are the worst. I know some people let their houses get like that, but if you're posting a video of it on the internet for the world to see, then you are clearly oblivious to the filth.

I know of a FT WFH mom to two young kids who has a live-nanny and cleaners once a week who does not empty the diaper pail that’s left in the front of the home living room! Waits until the cleaners do. The stench you smell when you walk through the front door is astounding. I really don’t get it.

My gosh, this thread brought out the absolute worst in humanity--most of whom are probably teenage trolls. OP--I agree with you, humans can be really disgusting. Having money doesn't buy class.

Devils advocate--I'm on OP's side, but I had covid in May and it really wipes you out long after the contagiousness has passed.

OP, are you staying in the house?

My pet sitter doesn’t stay — she drops in daily — and it would never occur to me to clean the house for her. My house is pretty clean but impressing staff has never been a thing to me.

What's the point of this post? You never realized there are different levels of cleanliness?

No rats or roaches running around - then who cares - you don't live there, shesh. And I'm a clean freak.

Not all - maybe my MIL - who I would not judge, except she has ripped me to shreds for being somewhat clean and neat. I guess washing one's hands after using the bathroom is a stretch?

It all depends on how one grew up. We were not allowed any animals in the house. Not one. Our house was immaculate because my mom was immaculate, so was her mom, etc. Cleaning was a weekly happening. My parents, on top of it, never missed one day of work. MIL had the tv on all day, while FIL took "work trips". Not a cohesive family, on top of both/all being oblivious to basic cleanliness. In DH's house, every surface being totally covered with "recylables" and just stuff was "normal".

Now, we have a dog, but in DH's house, they allowed dogs, and MIL was SAHM but lazy, so never actually picked up after the dog - gross, and would be unheard of in my house (if an animal ever set foot in our house, which never would have happened, in a million years).

So PP, my point is - not all animal owners are dirty people. I can however, smell a house with one or more cats immediately.

You have too much stuff.

There’s a difference between messiness and filth; I can smell it.

I own my condo 100% outright, but thanks AND I don't need to live in filth.

I don't need the money - I have a few side hustles in the off season, and taking care of pets is easy pay. Why not? But look, I've had pet sitters before - how hard is it to tidy up? A little messiness is one thing, but some of you should be ashamed. Clean your damn homes. If your homes are so expensive, surely you can afford someone to do it for you?

Oooohhhhhh, a *condo*! Do you mean like the one I owned when I was 26? Aww, cute! That’s a cute look for you.

At least I own what I can take care of, and not beyond my means. Whatever home you have, do you not take pride in it? If you do, my god man keep it clean.

Oh honey, I do. But I find it so adorable that you have to scrounge together pet-sitting jobs and then take jabs at people whose houses are bigger and nicer than yours. Keep cleaning your shoebox and dog-sitting! It’s too precious. Look at you with a summer job you complain about…just like a 16yo!

What an a-hole. the irony here is you are trying to diss the OP, but you are coming across as an arrogant, smug, self righteous jerk yourself. LOLOLOLOL.

Lol. Yes, so much filthier than the wet markets, slums, or housing without running water that half the world lives or works in.

Pp is right, Americans are pretty unkempt. People in slums tend to take care of their spaces and whatever little they have. However poor they may be, they’re not lazy. Unlike many in their Mcmansions. As Countess Luann says… money can’t but you class 😄

+1. Americans have access to running water and all the cleaning supplies in the world and still can't clean or keep themselves clean. Like pigs. I avoid using the restroom at work after lunch, when all these people poop after their disgusting lunches and can't even properly clean themselves because of their size.

They also dirty up the rest of the world with their gross, wasteful spewing of pollution and garbage embarrassing fat asses that they are. Even their vehicles are fat and embarrassing.

I don’t think so. Just with meal prep/clean up and clothing and toys I’m at least that much. There aren’t that many toys either.

Nobody's saying you should clean your house for a pet sitter. But a baseline level of clean is normal whether you have people in your home or not.

Dirty counters, old dishes in the sink, water bowls, debris on the floor? Nasty.
