Teacher, but pet sitting during the summer. Damn, some of you have really dirty homes

You people are despicable! You know who you are!

This. Seriously. The defensiveness is weird, unless you're someone who keeps a filthy home.

For a pet sitter I would at minimum:

• Empty all garbage 🗑 cans in the home

• Make sure there are no dirty dishes in the sink

• Have all floors + counters swept and wiped

• Ensure the bathroom is not only spic & span > but has clean towels too

• Make sure the bedroom has clean sheets/linens

• Have excessive pet hair vacuumed up.

• Have a clean litter box (cat) or if dog, make sure backyard/patio are picked up

I do the bolded for pet sitters. It's mind boggling that others don't do these basic things. We change sheets every 7-10 days, so they may not be totally fresh (different if for house sitter). Toilets and sink are clean, and showers are presentable (but not spic and span). If you want someone to respect your animal and home, don't be a disgusting slob.

Someone should write a tell all book about gross stuff in the homes of pet owners.

You can tell who has filthy homes by reading the comments. 😂

Yes. I got so much vitriol when I posted that I air out my house daily and it's important to me to have fresh air. It's too hard, it takes too much time, I have too many windows etc. Meanwhile, Americans are sitting on their fat a** watching 90 Day Fiancé or other c* for hours.

People aren’t defensive because they have filthy homes. They are defensive because someone akin to hired help has the nerve to pass judgement.
The reason why people hire help is because they need help!

European?

Just wondering. People think I"m nuts for opening my windows all the time to air out the house. In the summer, I do it very early. In the winter, anytime. I'm German, that's how I grew up.

Curious, OP.

1. Do you understand that some people can't help themselves, and may be hoarders, or have ADHD, and it's a miracle they have good jobs that pay for such homes? We are in that hoarder/ADHD situation. I can't clean up all the mess my husband produces, and he refuses to acknowledge he has a problem. I just do my best to contain it. Thankfully my friends understand my predicament.

2. Do you imagine being in a situation one day with a family of your own where it will be challenging to keep up with some tasks? Do you consider your own flaws to be less bad than this apparently terrible flaw of not keeping a 100% clean and tidy home? If that's the case, do you accept that others have different priorities and that this is OK too?

Just wondering about your framework of ethics in posting such a judgmental post.

It really, really seems like a troll post. There was absolutely no need to mention being a teacher, for example. Also the dig at people sick with covid not cleaning their house? C’mon, people. It’s a troll.

This just in: different people have different standards of cleanliness and levels of exhaustion

-signed: I think shoes in the house are gross but reusing towels many times in not gross because hey guess what we all have different standards

I am on team Pet Sitter. It is jarring what grime and clutter is invisible to others. Turn off the netflix and give your home some love.

They are trusting someone to come into their home, and OP is definitely not a kind person. Not only judging them -- which no one can really help -- but posting it here. So not attractive.

I never have pet sitters but if I did, I would clean from top to bottom before we left. We clean from top to bottom just to have a maintenance man come in. Still, I think OP is a huge b/tch. Worse than someone with a dirty home.

If I had no kids and summers off my house would be near pristine.

Eh I'm siding with OP here. It's a nice wake up call to remember that when anyone is over at your house, they are judging your cleanliness, so step up the game! I feel like everyone getting offended by OP probably has a gross house they need to defend.

For PPs complaining about needing to take care of kids - do your kids not do their chores? lol. The only excuse is having a 1 year old or less since yeah they can't do chores. Even a 2 year old can help put toys away.

I own my condo 100% outright, but thanks AND I don't need to live in filth.

I don't need the money - I have a few side hustles in the off season, and taking care of pets is easy pay. Why not? But look, I've had pet sitters before - how hard is it to tidy up? A little messiness is one thing, but some of you should be ashamed. Clean your damn homes. If your homes are so expensive, surely you can afford someone to do it for you?

You want me to clean for the help? OK.
