This is just another way of saying that Riemer is best if you want a leaders who’s focused on platitudes instead of substance. There is little the CE can to in MD to advance LGBTI issues, because protections are driven by state and federal law - and judicial interpretations. If you want a CE that’s actually capable of doing things then don’t vote for Riemer. He’s f$:&’d up everything he’s touched in his career. That’s why he’s not running on his accomplishments. |
Yes, you should praise police for doing excellent work. They are county employees too. Look at very liberal Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. He supports his department 100%. MCPD hasn't "murdered" anyone. That's a legal term. But I guess you think abortion is murder too. Police have a right to self defense just like we do, but we call them to go address the violent crime so we don't have to. The only alternatives to police are vigilante justice or military intervention. I say no thanks to either of those options. Give me well-trained police any day. |
Acknowledgement for their good work is appropriate. Do you not appreciate it at your job? The police are minimally staffed right now because of this council. They have made MCPD so unattractive to recruits that the academy classes can’t even begin to replace the officers leaving the department. Riemer has been one to lead the charge against the police department. He claims he wants to improve public safety and policing, but he can’t (won’t?) admit he is large part of the problem. The fact MCPD operates as well as it does in spite of the current council is astounding. |
Agree that the hero worship is out of control. LEOs, Firefighters, Teachers. We have stop treating them like heros. |
You don’t have to treat them like heroes. You just need to treat them like humans. |
This! No worship necessary, but let’s treat them kindly. These are people who selected service professions. It isn’t hard to say “thanks” every now and then. |
| Blair |
|
does Marc Elrich
have a chance of winning? |
absolutely |
Yes. I dislike Blair who runs his mouth a lot, sends out expensive, pretty flyers, and way too many emails, but has done little beyond work in a family business. While I’m not doubting his business skills, his track record is not one that I find encouraging. I’m happy with a lot of things about Elrich. I also see value in going with the devil that I know, especially since I have no idea who will be governing the state or what that will look like and feel like during an economic crunch, with COVID still a concern. tldr: Elrich has many people who are reasonably happy with his efforts - particularly when the other choice is someone like Blair. As always, it will come down to who actually gets out to the polls, who takes the primary seriously, and how many Independents like me changed their registrations so that we could vote in crucial primaries. |
Most only want to be treated with respect. Those of you nattering on about “hero worship” might want to concern yourselves with the significant numbers of open slots. |
Most independents have switched to vote for Blair. And the Elrich camp is nervous. |
How do you know this? I’m assuming that it’s easy to see that independents have switched — but what supports your assertion that they switched to vote for Blair? When I switched, it was purely to vote in the primaries — not because I had a candidate picked out. |
| Question: Blair has run before for County Executive. One of my concerns about him was his lack of actual government experience— at least as far as I could tell. That doesn’t seem to have changed. Have I missed something fantastic or even substantive that would strongly suggest that he’d be an excellent County Executive— over and above working for his family business? I also wonder what will happen to the business if he wins, but I can wait until late July to look into that — if it still matters. |
Elrich sucks at managing and county services are degrading as a result. He's a tunnel vision micromanager. Blair seems to have a good track record of choosing good managers and delegating. He sucks at managing the county budget, just like he can't manage his campaign budget. People tend to vote for whomever matches their outlook on different issues, which I completely get. But the county lacks leadership across the board, and we are suffering for it. I need someone who has the strength to lead. The issues will take care of themselves with one party rule. |
