+1. I’m voting for Blair, but if the choice was solely between Riemer and Elrich I would probably hold my nose and vote for Riemer, solely because Elrich was so unbelievably out of touch with what families with kids were facing during the pandemic. I could never breathe a sigh of relief when CDC or the state relaxed guidance because inevitably Elrich and DHHS would have to put their own little special spin on it. |

Tonight at midnight is the deadline to switch registrations to Democrat and vote for moderates. You can switch back after.
For good or for ill, the Democratic primary determines who’s going to win the general election. Before midnight Tuesday. https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/onlinevoterregistration/InstructionsStep1?fbclid=IwAR1y5PWm1ly32kftGaguAYpJ0iS5sUNMC9RKfR3NjcxtEoDbpTvndduoD4Q |
17 minutes left! |
Sadly, once again, I could not get my DH to register as a dem to vote in the primary (he’s unaffiliated). It’s so frustrating! Hogan is the only republican that he has voted for in recent years anyway and he’s always complaining about Elrich and the council. I told him I am unwilling to listen to his complaints anymore since he’s not willing to vote in the primary. |
And then hogan cut $ for abortion support. I guess your H won’t do that again. |
Hogan is not up for re-election. |

I'm voting for Riemer. Blair's website reads Republican to me.
On top of that, I'm not religious but I am an LGBT person and he's got a whole religious section which I take it to mean that he would not support my continued existence just as other Republicans don't. Riemer is endorsed by LGBTQ Democrats of Montgomery County. |
From Blair’s page on religion: “The sacred texts of all the major faith traditions teach the importance of loving one’s neighbor as one’s self, seeking justice, and caring for the poor and vulnerable.” “The impact of faith communities grows exponentially as they cross lines of race, culture, gender, ideology and religion in serving the common good. Examples of effective activities include; interfaith worship services of thanksgiving, interfaith prayer and candlelight vigils responding to acts of hate and violence, hosting multicultural dialogues on important and challenging local moral issues, serving as first responders to emergencies, providing healthcare, and welcoming immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. Community members experiencing the rich diversity of Montgomery County in these ways know we are one human family inspired with social justice and compassion.” I’m obviously not going to tell you who to vote for, but I don’t think Blair’s page paints the picture of someone who is a religious zealot who will attack LGBT rights. |
Better safe than sorry in this current climate. |
That's exactly how I feel. It's easy for people that aren't worried about losing their rights to tell me I'm being dramatic. When Roe leaked a few months ago, I told people I was scared about losing gay marriage and was told I'm dramatic and it will never happen. Now Thomas explicitly mentioned it. I can't live my life hoping for the best. I need to vote for the person that I know will look out for me. |
Riemer is probably the best when it comes to LGBT issues however don’t forget about the gubernatorial election. Probably the biggest step back on progressive issues would happen if the republican candidate were to win. I don’t expect Blair would be matching in pride parades or anything like that but I also don’t see him trying to roll back anything either (as if the council would let him!). |
I mean, you guys realize he switched affiliation two decades ago right? It wasn’t like he switched just to run for county exec. He’s answered questions on this and his evolution was not implausible (it was pretty similar to what my mom, who started out as a Reagan republican but now votes solidly dem, would say). It’s not a character flaw to evolve. Anyway, just about anywhere else in the country Blair would be considered pretty darn liberal. But he’ll never pass the MoCo progressive purity test I guess. |

Blair all the way. The crime is out of control. And part of the reason is elrich doesn’t support his police department.
Where is his praise of their excellent police work apprehending the three juveniles who were shooting at police in Bethesda? Police took them unharmed. Elrich is quick to condemn them in officer involved shootings but silent when they do it right. Unbelievable. |
This is absolutely true. |
Oh yeah, let's give the police a huge pat on the back for DOING THEIR JOBS and not murdering people while arresting them. |
