Lucky kids. Ours don’t get anything for pe and have to fake all sports. Or, we pay privately. |
+1. And, they could have done a lot more for the kids still in virtual. |
What does bocce ball have to do with cultural heritage. Do you realize how many better things mcps could have used the money for? |
+1 million Well said. |
Yes, that is true. The County recreation department offers a ton of wonderful programs for special needs students. But bocce is not something that MCPS should have spent its Covid money on. |
Your remarks are offensive and culturally and sensitive. |
I have to disagree. I feel it's one of the best things they've spent money on and decades. |
Let me guess, you live in a rich area and kids who have no needs above the standard needs. Sn kids need a lot of things but this is not one. |
While I fail to see why bocce is one of the best things they’ve spent money on in decades, I’m willing to consider that maybe I’m missing something. However, if it was of such great value, MCPS should have budgeted its own funds for it (PE, sports, etc.). If MCPS managed without bocce for decades, then COVID did not disrupt our bocce status. The money was meant to offset the damage wrought by COVID, which does not include bocce I tried to teach my kids that there is a difference between needs and wants. Just because you want something badly doesn’t make it a need. Needs have to be prioritized, but then if you’re careful, you can decide which wants to achieve. They may want ice cream, shiny new toys, etc., but they don’t need them. MCPS has to learn the difference between needs and wants. This is why I never support additional funding for MCPS. They go for the shiny new toy every time. |
I beg to differ. Bocce is a far better use of funds than spending the millions and millions of astroturf for football fields. This is something that all children can enjoy. |
THIS |
I know! I have to agree spending a few dollars per student to introduce them to a wonderful game like bocce was money well spent! These people complaining about it seem to have a grudge against people of Italian descent. |
What does Italian descent have to do with anything? The Board of Education used COVID-19 pandemic emergency funds to buy sports stuff and ignored doing anything to address the pandemic. ADD is really prevalent, but try to focus. Other school systems are vastly ahead of addressing the indoor ventilation issues that are known to be crucial in stopping the spread of COVID-19. The Board of Education is years behind now and they wasted the dedicated funding on luxury items. |
Yes, bocce is a key part of the conspiracy by Monifa and her board minions to corrupt our youth and destroy MCPS!
|
| Schools are scrambling to use Covid funds, as it’s a lot of temporarily available money. The challenge is that the money will not be there in a few years. Maybe the central admin thought getting bocce equipment is a good use of funds because they’d be start up costs as opposed to something they’d need to sustain. That doesn’t mean it’s the best use, but that might be the reasoning. |
