Agree 100%!! A lot of the people posting seem to be looking for anything to complain about. Also, my kids actually enjoyed bocce so I saw the impact of this first hand.

Really?
Which school was your kid at and where did they build the court?
What brand were the bocce balls?
What brand was your kid's bocce ball uniform?
How many referees where there?
How many sets of kids were playing?
Can you answer this?

40 sites were supposed to be established, with official courts, paid referees, uniforms with fancy $145 bocce ball sets.

If you google MCPS and bocce balls, apparently multiple schools already had it. So, it makes even less sense.

I read that the bocce pilot was so successful at the test schools that they needed to get it to the remaining ones ASAP. My kids got it for the first time this year at our school and it was so much fun! Glad to see the spend a few $$$ on something that kids enjoy for once.

Spending over 3/4 mil on $40 bocce balls? Thats 19,000 sets.. and if four on a team with two subs so everyone is involved.. let's see.. that should be about 114,000 students at MCPS playing this year?

That's strange. I don't see any of the kids at our school playing it. Wonder what happened?

Maybe they can give them to the virtual students so kids don't have to do pretend sports virtually.

How many kids attended?
Which schools were they from?
For how long did they attend and how many times?
What did you get that was better than the $40 admission fee?

Let’s go back to Kid museum.

Since the new superintendent is officially on her job this week, I hope she can check this corrupted deal which drains money from MCPS but had little interest to service the needy students in MCPS. I assume rent near Bethesda Metro is the most expansive which is what MCPS helps them to pay.

It's corrupt because you don't like the kid museum or do you just like to pretend everything that doesn't benefit you personally as corrupt?

Yes, the PP has no evidence to support their allegations. It's just a way to smear people and stir up grievance which is the goal of the paid right-wing posters.

I'm not right-wing, nor do I think this project is corrupt, but, I question whether it is a good use of $. How many MCPS students will get to take field trips here? We have a city of free museums. Why not use the $ they are giving to kids museums to help fund transportation costs to the already funded, free museums? MCPS does not have enough buses for schools to use them for field trips. Schools are still going to. have to rent buses to get kids to the Kids museum. How many schools are within walking distance of the Kids museum? Bethesda Chevy Chase HS?

I'm personally tired of the non-stop complaining about these non-issues. I don't care about the KID Museum one way or the other. Things that matter to me are expanding magnet opportunities, improving the curriculum for K-8, improving teacher morale, and reducing the amount of standardized testing. If McKnight can address 3-4 of these issues even, she'd be the best super ever.

Evidence? Easy
Money for schools for all is going to a private business for a few.

Well, instead of doing those things we have the kid museum that many of our smart kids will never go to and bocce ball. The 8-12 curriculum needs improvement too. The only acceleration mcps has for some kids is algebra in 6th.

How many of those "free museums" let kids roll up their sleeves and do stuff? Despite its name, it's not really a museum.

Algebra in 6th isn't official. It only happens at a few wealthy schools where parents strong arm them into it. DC who was scoring 280+ in 3rd grade on their map at a title 1 school was not offered any acceleration.

This is not true. It is only at select schools but ours is far from wealthy. It was offered on the registration form.

Would not know as we tried to bring them to our school but could not afford the fees. Bcc and Bethesda elem are walking distance. Everyone else needs a bus.

DP. How many kids went to Kid Museum? A handful? $2M would have helped provide classroom supports for teachers. Now teachers are quitting.

Smear? To smear it has to be a false statement, right? She signed the ESSER III application herself. THIS IS COVID MONEY!!!

Please explain it, in detail how this is not illegal? I'm all ears.
