Is this a joke/parody of the current housing market?

Listings with situations like this don’t have open houses.

It's now on Zillow Gone Wild.

On the plus side, it appears to have decent curb appeal 🤷‍♀️

Owner of property is dying, estate is not in order. They are trying to not take it to probate which will happen if the owner dies. Kids are running things for now via the POA. Overall condition wouldn't pass appraisal, she said it's in better shape that she expected but there is wood rot, peeling paint. Wood floors have pet damage. I didn't hear anything that indicated it wouldn't pass appraisal but I'll assume that she knows better than I do on this since she's been inside.

Tenant is not a family member. She weasled her way in on the premise of helping the owner. I assumed this was the case, this happens a lot.

The tenant has a young kid and no lease, so eviction is going to be interesting. Tenant also apparently has lots of late-night visitors who come and go. So she's a scam artist it sounds like.

Sad, we need more rights to evict squatters and tenants, we forget the true victims the owners and landlords. If you are a squatter or deadbeat tenant you should go to jail and be banned for a set amount of time and be forced to be damages.

As a former landlord who had to evict a tenant, the tenants have more rights to your house than the owner does. You have to jump thru hoops and follow the exact right steps to get them out which still takes months... which really puts you in a bind when they are actively destroying your home and there isnt a thing you can do about it but watch.

Of course the realtor says this...

Someone on reddit just posted this:

So at the risk of getting myself doxxed, I know the neighbors and have intel on the whole situation. The old man who lived there has been having some health issues for a while and was finally moved to hospice care a few days ago. His adult children aren’t in a position to care for the house so they want to sell it ASAP. The “tenant” in the basement is a housekeeper who has been taking care of the old man for a few years. She, her young daughter and their little dog live rent free and the old man doesn’t want them evicted. They’re not bad people or drug dealers or anything like that.
As of yesterday, the house already has three all cash offers (presumably from investors looking to tear down/rebuild). It’s expected to go under contract in the next couple of weeks.

Can confirm all of this. I did not post on Reddit, but I know someone who lives close by and vaguely knew both the owner and tenant (not well enough to realize he was sick, though.) House has multiple offers.

OP here. I can’t believe so many places have picked up this story and that there are almost 100k views on Redfin now. I guess even notoriety is good if it drives traffic. That’s a sad situation and a bit of a moral dilemma. What if the kids had abandoned the old man and the housekeeper was the only one caring for him with the promise that she could stay? I think the kids should at least pay her something for taking care of their father and moving out.

This is sad for the dying man as well as the housekeeper, her kid, and dog.
