Thank you |
| It's now on Zillow Gone Wild. |
| On the plus side, it appears to have decent curb appeal 🤷♀️ |
As a former landlord who had to evict a tenant, the tenants have more rights to your house than the owner does. You have to jump thru hoops and follow the exact right steps to get them out which still takes months... which really puts you in a bind when they are actively destroying your home and there isnt a thing you can do about it but watch. |
And in Washingtonian https://www.washingtonian.com/2022/04/12/this-800k-house-in-fairfax-will-go-quickly-it-comes-with-a-person-in-the-basement/?fbclid=IwAR3vjpl0yTDJPj2qm-sfuO5jrG_c-0u-BygQkMAyFEydna41O_p4QJ8xvro |
I just came here to post this! This house is a hot home now! |
Washingtonian article says they have one bid and are expecting more. |
Of course the realtor says this... |

Someone on reddit just posted this:
So at the risk of getting myself doxxed, I know the neighbors and have intel on the whole situation. The old man who lived there has been having some health issues for a while and was finally moved to hospice care a few days ago. His adult children aren’t in a position to care for the house so they want to sell it ASAP. The “tenant” in the basement is a housekeeper who has been taking care of the old man for a few years. She, her young daughter and their little dog live rent free and the old man doesn’t want them evicted. They’re not bad people or drug dealers or anything like that. As of yesterday, the house already has three all cash offers (presumably from investors looking to tear down/rebuild). It’s expected to go under contract in the next couple of weeks. |
Axios too. |
Can confirm all of this. I did not post on Reddit, but I know someone who lives close by and vaguely knew both the owner and tenant (not well enough to realize he was sick, though.) House has multiple offers. |
OP here. I can’t believe so many places have picked up this story and that there are almost 100k views on Redfin now. I guess even notoriety is good if it drives traffic. That’s a sad situation and a bit of a moral dilemma. What if the kids had abandoned the old man and the housekeeper was the only one caring for him with the promise that she could stay? I think the kids should at least pay her something for taking care of their father and moving out. |
| This is sad for the dying man as well as the housekeeper, her kid, and dog. |
