I was the last poster you quoted and do agree. The characters with plot "hooks" are either bad actors, poorly directed, or it is bad writing - maybe all three. Hell, even the dog's scene of being scared of the horse looked cheesey. |
Carrie Coon is 41? I thought she was 48 in this role. |
I'm the earlier PP. That could be interesting and I'd love to see that direction. I worried that this would be a revisit of the Downton Abbey wife's lady's maid who basically forced her to miscarry and lose their only hope of keeping the home/fortune/title in the family. I hated the Evil Lady's Maid storyline. |
I don’t care about the downstairs people’s plot lines. That’s all Julian fellows gets his rocks off on so…
Dialogue is too fast and doesn’t seem natural sometimes especially when the servants are all talking over each other— just seems so bad. I’m kind of hate watching it at this point, except for the dresses, and I agree the red dress and the bird dress were beautiful. |
I'm enjoying it, despite the flaws. I LOVE Carrie Coon's voice. |
It started picking up the pace in Ep 3. And, interestingly, I think Carrie Coons is the only one who sounds good because she isn't nearly as stilted at the rest. |
A PP mentioned the Van Rijn butler mentioning to the Russell butler the differences in how they do things. I loved that little bit, would love to see more. That said, I have such a hard time with the Russell butler because all I can think each time is about his role in Billons. Such a snob there, though he was actually a "servant" to the rich in Billions too. |
I agree completely but I’m surprised people think Meryl Streep’s daughter is a bad actor. I’m loving her and her character. |
Nathan Lane's TERRIBLE southern accent is just beyond. I think that’s the end of the road for me. |
I love this show - really excited to watch each ep. |
It's high School drama level bad. |
I love Nathan Lane |
I love Nathan Lane, but he turned the episode into a comedy. Or a pantomime, even! |
Tell us more about that. |
I was surprised he was so supportive of Mrs Russell. I thought it would be more of a struggle. |
