What's "woke" about?

This should be good . . .

I wish they did more with the Newport setting. I remember seeing the photos when they were filming and I got excited about the potential.

I'm afraid you are correct. It's so disappointing, considering Downton Abbey was fantastic. I think Julian Fellowes really doesn't like Americans.

The Americans were my least favorite characters on Downton Abbey.

I loved the costumes and Carrie Coon. Glad they focused less on Marian this season. I agree with the historical issues everyone else raised (Peggy traveling solo with a married man? Nope!). But it was fun to binge watch - I waited until all the episodes were out and that made it more fun to watch. Excited to see what they’ll do with season 3. Will Bertha really accept Marian as Larry’s partner?

💯

It’s more enjoyable than downton abbey

Which I liked quite a bit but has aged poorly

I tried to watch this show and I just can't. It is so cheesy and fake. Meryl Streep's daughter cannot act

What’s up with Oscar Van Rijn suddenly turning straight without any explanation? So bizarre and awkward.

He didn't "turn straight." He did what many gay people throughout history have done and sought a wife so that he could have at least a semblance of a "normal" life with a family.
I found him to be one of the most complex and realistic characters in an otherwise pretty banal show.

He’s fascinating and likable.

That was deliberate on the part of Julian Fellowes.

Mamie Gunnar is wooden and unbelievable in every role I see her in. Genes do not a great actress make!

He will be living a secret double life.

Absolutely nothing is woke about this show. And I really how that word is used to describe anything that someone doesn't like.
