I would totally pick Door Number Beth! I thought it was a good episode. I totally agree that young Rebecca looked like young Kate. Always good casting on this show! |
I agree, BUT, as the child of a charming alcoholic, I think they get this right. When my dad was good, he was REALLY good, and everyone put him up on a pedestal. |
| Sweet ep, I enjoyed it! |
The ending was a little random, but I liked it too. |
|
The whole show seemed to drag on with just the two story lines ... and then BAM!... in the last 20 seconds they reveal all kinds of things!
I feel bad for Sally -- her life was just up-ended by Nicki's visit. But, glad to put that to rest. The flight attendant was an interesting twist. And, am I right that it's Randall who is re-building the cabin, not Kevin? That's what I took away. |
| Completely agree w thoughts above. Boring 2 plot levels but end was good! |
|
This episode rang false to me. Beth and Randall let Deja get on a bus by herself to hang out with her boyfriend? Don't think so (how old is she anyway? Next episode shows her learning to drive so she's 15/16?)
Sally confesses all her marriage woes and suddenly she and Rebecca are BFFs? No. Nicky is rude to a flight attendant ...and she marries him? No. |
| that preview showing Deja and Randall in the car though - husband and I laughed so hard. |
| I haven't enjoyed either episode so far. It's lost its charm. In the first few seasons I would end up crying after every episode. Right now its just dragging on.... |
Deja didn't tell her parents she was going to visit her boyfriend... hence Randall's text and surprise in the preview. |
Deja lied that she was staying over her friend' Tiffany's house. They didn't know she was on a bus to Boston, and probably why she only stayed overnight and not for the weekend. According to the previews Randall finds out about the teens having $ex from Deja's Siri texts. I think the Sally and Rebecca bonding was actually great - these two women who crossed paths and have bottled up emotions, confronting aging, just bonded. The Pearson family really needs friends, especially ones that other family members won't try to marry later. I think Nicky came across as crusty but not hostile with Edie but willing to open up. She seems like one of the first characters I've ever seen him look in the eye directly. |

Did you have a little help on your needs-friends “analysis” from this recap? https://www.vulture.com/article/this-is-us-season-6-episode-2-recap-one-giant-leap.html |
Me, too. The whole thing wasn't exactly as incandescent as Deja, but it had some moments that remind me why on the whole I love the show. The music really worked well, and given our cold weather I've got the line "April, come she will" stuck in my head. |
That, plus, people have a way of canonizing the dead. |
