This Is Us final season

It just occurred to me that I was the OP of the first This Is Us thread when the show premiered in 2016. The last season starts tonight. I think the show has had some truly inspired writing and creativity, interspersed with some so-so episodes.

Anyhow, I'm sad to see the Pearsons go. Kind of like finishing Parenthood or Friday Night Lights, when families whose lives sometimes mirror your own or help you look at yours in a new way are gone forever.

I have the DVR ready to tape tonight's episode!

I'm sad too, OP, but looking forward to what they bring out this season. I'm about the same age as Kevin, Randall and Kate and many of my own life events mirrored theirs over these past six years (getting married, IVF, having kids, health crises for a parent) so it's been especially rewarding watching it. Plus while I do think the writing is sometimes over the top, there are some scenes that are absolutely top notch television (Randall with his bio dad as he dies; the fight between Randall and Kevin right after Kevin finds out Madison is pregnant).

Thanks for the reminnder!

This show really jumped the 🦈

It has been so long since it was on that I have no idea where the story is. The last several seasons have not been very good but I keep loyally watching.

Same. I adore Milo but I cringe now at any of the Rebecca and Jack flashbacks. Enough already! Let’s move the story forward! I want the present and the future. I feel like they have spent more than enough time in the past. I hope this season makes it worth sitting through all those bad episodes.

Present: depressing
Future: depressing

I think that about spoils the show.

It was so depressing! Real life is depressing enough.

So, Kate is going to end up with a guy who breaks up with a girl by calling her boring?

I imagine he’s on the spectrum but dang he is not remotely likable. Can’t believe they’re going to break up the Toby marriage for that guy.

Didn’t Toby cheat with his CrossFit friend, or have an emotional affair with her? Sorry my memory is terrible.

Beginning of an EA, it seemed, that was nipped in the bud.

Yeah, I was hoping for more. But at the end Kate says (copying and pasting from an online review), "If the world stopped for the bad stuff, then everything would be dark. But the world keeps going so we can find that crack of light on the other side of the door, you know? We have found the light before, big brother, and we’ll find it again.ā€

A little trite when you see it written down rather than hear it, but I hope the show's writers take that to heart.

And, ugh, how does Kate end up marrying that pompous jerk? Clearly, there's more there than meets the eye, er, ear. But, ack, send him back to the dreck of A Million Little Things where he belongs.
