Mid thirties guy here — I can get sex from 7s if I put effort into it but it requires a lot more effort than what top tier guys have to put in.

So I think it’s more than porn (which I don’t watch).

Compared to twenty years ago, there are so many other ways to pass the time.

Sports gambling — now you can gamble on almost any action worldwide from your phone), trading stocks/options/crypto (when you nail a trade it feels like sex….even 10 years ago retail trading wasn’t as accessible), streaming, podcasts, books —> one has the world’s media at their fingertips at all times, working out, etc

Isn't part of the statistic just the fact that more people aren't married? I would think finding sex from multiple partners would just be more difficult than having sex with the same partner. I wonder if they are comparing single people to single people and married people to married people.

I think you'd want to look at co-habitation rates. As I recall, a different study showed that couples who lived together without being married tended to have more sex than married couples. Both groups had more sex than people who didn't live with a partner.

Google tells me average for American men is 5'9" and 194#. Average woman is 5'4" and 170 pounds.

Let's not overvalue relationships though. Some of those are pretty terrible. In middle school and high school, I had relationships with "friends" who were pretty terrible just because they were of a similar age, lived geographically close to me, and I had nothing better to do. I would have been better off with more video games.
