The specific location was opposed by some in the community, and supported by others, but what you’re missing is that the money is now gone for good and it will be many decades before the Fairfax/Oakton area has the opportunity to reduce the enrollment at Mosaic (over 960 kids) or Providence (875 kids) again.

Meanwhile a new school will get built at Dunn Loring, where it isn’t needed, in an area where the nearby schools are below capacity and some only have 400 or fewer kids.

Only an idiot and a buffoon like Frisch could have come up with such a stupid idea, and only a school board composed entirely of members from the same political party could have failed to stop it. Shame on the entire school board for wasting taxpayer money.

I remember when he came to Shrevewood with his grand plan to reduce enrollment - parents were. PISSED. The school board had originally promised a boundary study in the fall of 2021 with changes implemented in the fall of 2022. Then Covid blew everything up and Frisch took advantage of everything to push his stupid school that nobody asked for through. I don't know a single Shrevewood family that is happy about this plan - for one thing, we don't need any changes now, our school is under capacity after Covid; and second, at the time, we needed/wanted immediate changes. Nobody wants a new school - all the schools that they would have moved our kids to were good schools (Stenwood & Freedom Hill). Now who knows what is going to happen with this new school that is like a mile down the road from Stenwood by the way.

Well said. It will be a total sh*t show.

Wasn't the Shrevewood PTA in total support of him? I heard rumblings that they did nothing to speak up against his plan at that meeting.

I think everyone felt blindsided. I was in the meeting, there weren't really any opportunities for people to ask questions, and when someone did, it was really glossed over, so I think people stopped. The PTA sent a letter to the board members protesting the plans and I don't think anyone ever responded. I know I personally (and many of my friends) reached out, as well, and never heard anything other than "we're doing this for you, isn't it wonderful?"

This exactly!

Though I think people did expect the PTA to put up more of a fight but let’s be clear nothing would have changed so can’t fault the PTA. But the Shrevewoood principal has made an impact on enrollment through other avenues-for better or worse.

Shrevewood Enrollment Trends (September #s)

2017: 770
2018: 773
2019: 771
2020: 719
2021: 674
2022: 657
2023: 646

So the numbers were dropping even pre-Covid, and have continued to drop since Covid. Yet Frisch wants to spend $60M in taxpayer money to build a new school (reportedly 900-seats) in Dunn Loring to "solve" the problem at Shrevewood, when the Dunn Loring site is surrounded by other under-enrolled schools: Cunningham Park, Vienna, Freedom Hill, and Stenwood.

When Shrevewood was over-crowded, there was a simple solution: move part of Shrevewood to Stenwood, and part of Stenwood to Freedom Hill. Now there will be a more complicated, expensive "solution," and it will create far more capacity that's needed in the Dunn Loring/Vienna area, while likely delaying a new school where it might make sense, either further west in Fairfax/Oakton, or further east in Tysons.

The whole project should be scrapped and Frisch should be sent packing. The guy is a total moron.

He went to UVA. Do more research

Not sure why you resurrected am old thread to say this. But since it popped up - I just saw that the draft parks budget has money for improving Blake Lane park. I guess that further cements its status as not a school site? Even though it was meant to be a school property, and we badly need it?

Blake Lane is not badly needed. Come on. Fritsch was right about that, but wrong (very premature) about Dunn Loring.

Thank you for posting this data. I don’t know much (or anything, really) about this school, but that seems like a big drop in enrollment.

People have specific criticisms of what incredibly poor decisions Frisch has not only made, but championed, and all you can do is come back with a bunch of BS about “book banning.”

If Frisch gets elected to the SB he’ll keep looking for another opportunity to run for higher office, just like he did in 2022 when he got trounced by Holly Seibold. Of course, he may get elected to the SB again because most people pay so little attention and vote a party line but maybe, just maybe, the next board will pay more attention and question his schemes. Because he is an idiot, and his boondoggle at Dunn Loring never came close to passing the smell test.

Thank you for taking the bait and confirming that you are, in fact, a republican shill.

Thanks for confirming that bait is all you’ll ever have to offer. It doesn’t make Frisch look any less unqualified.

Lady, you are being stupid on purpose. I'm not in support of Frisch, I don't like him. But I would rather not mark anyone down than mark down the Republican candidate.

NP. You are the one who sounds stupid voting again for someone who screwed your district over already.

Stupid one is the one who can't read. I said I wouldn't vote for anyone, dipshit. Not voting for your a-hole candidate. If there were primaries for school board, I'd vote for another democrat, but school board is not political, LOL

Two things happened to make enrollment decline: lots of people moved away and to Catholic during Covid and never came back and they switched to the cluster model instead of having a separate LLIV class which sent a lot of families to the AAP Center. I believe the Principal knew exactly what he was doing and what would happen when he made this change.

DP. Fortunately he does have an opponent in the general election. Frisch has been an unmitigated disaster on the School Board. Voting for him again is something only an ignorant voter or a party hack could do.

Well, it seemed to work when Holly Siebold trounced Frisch in the delegate primary.

Is this tongue-in-cheek? Those both seem like good reasons to retire Frisch from public office. His colleagues have questioned his ability to tell the truth in their texts (produced during the litigation over the change in TJ admissions) and the Dunn Loring school IS a giant waste of money.
