Lia Thomas - Will this change college sports for women or a nothingburger?

I mean it would be statistically very very unlikely. A freak of nature talent capable of playing pro is very rare. Transgenderism is very rare. For the two things to coincidentally happen in the same person is possible but extremely unlikely.

Listen to Bari Weiss’s Honestly podcast. The episode is called Women Like Hunting Witches, Too.

What about letting trans people compete, but don’t give them the scholarships and medals? They’re doing it purely for the sport in this case and not taking away opportunities for cis women.

There are limited number of swimmers entered in each event (maybe flexible) and a limited number in finals (not flexible). Each team will only recruit and carry a certain number of specialists for each event. So this unfortunately isn’t true. This is a harder problem that you can’t just wave off, because I for one don’t doubt the sincerity of Lia’s transition, but a trained athlete whose body that has gone through male puberty will be able to beat nearly all cis female competitors. But she hasn’t beaten the GOAT yet, so don’t worry?

Just worry about something of greater consequence is all. Of all the issues facing women, this one feels like drummed up fake outrage. But devote yourself to this if you must. Overturning Roe is a much more dire emergency.

Participation in sports should be based on biological sex, not what someone thinks their gender is.

Your solution is worse than the problem.

Which solution? Several have been put forward on this thread.

And which problem?

It's another way of marginalizing women and girls.

Conservatives are despicable pushing for these anti-women policies.

For those of you who think it’s fine, just wait until it affects your athlete daughter.

If we’re supposed to bend over backwards for the super small number of trans athletes, to make them feel comfortable and accepted, why should we just brush aside the small number of actual female athletes that this issue affects negatively? Are their feelings not important? Or not important enough?

Another step toward liberalism eventually eating itself. JK Rowling was right.

Please.. in years of youth and college sports with multiple kids, had one trans kid involved in one sport. Nice kid but able to make much of a contribution towards athletic success inspire of all those supposed super male advantages described on here. There was a team, a bunch of kids with a variety of talents and contributions....they grew up and are all now off to the next thing. No issues at all.

Meant not able to contribute much. Was not a good athlete. But so what? Everything was fine.

Ok
So since your kid didn’t have any issues, that clearly means no one else’s kids will. Such a strong point you’ve made.
