Because it’s not about “getting into a school” it’s about living each day and having a great experience at Visi, or STJ, or stone ridge or holy cross. Each child shadows a schools, finds one that will make the next 4 years the best for that specific child.

Why pay $3500/year got club soccer if you are not playing in college? Because they like it.

Also $40K isn’t all that much, if it were then you would possibly have other more pressing priorities.

PP. Thanks. I was under the assumption that these higher priced WERE about getting into a school. Guess I stand corrected.

It’s a common question though. Often it’s cultural… my family has been going to DC Catholic schools since the early 1900’s. It’s not for everybody in our family. Some do public, some do boarding school, some do magnet schools, some like coed.

I think the Big-3 are about “getting in”, but even then you see parents wonder where do b students go. Perhaps as is about “getting in” for the top 15% at Catholic schools.

I think big sports schools are about “getting committed” or just being on a great team for those 4 years.
Some kids love the theater program at Holy Cross
Some kids will like ROTC at STJ.
Or the marching band at GC.

Who know .. but the reasons vary.

But it’s not about “getting in” for the majority.

under your thinking, why do anything if it doesn't have a direct return?
Why pay for your kid to have piano lessons if they're not going to be a concert pianist?
Why have them play travel soccer if they're going to play in Europe?

I don't understand your world view.

I received an articulate, thoughtful response to my inquiry a couple minutes ago. It wasn't from you.

I hate to be crass but you probably don’t get it. And that’s ok. The mores are just different than your demographic. The money is for most a very small part of their budget, so that’s not typically part of the private school thinking equation. They went, their parents went, and their kids will go private.

Either that or you are talking about the bottom of the class and the best options are Clemson or Goucher.

I don’t know. I went to visitation, and now that my friends’ kids are getting to high school age, I’m surprised by how many are not going to visitation or Gonzaga.

Clemson isn’t that easy to get into anymore.

Same with UMD. Why waste money on private to go to UMD? It was very frowned upon at Visitation in the 1990s.

Because, people are not paying for private schools for the college outcomes. Period.
how is that so hard to understand?

NP...which shows you are shallow morons that have no clue to the reality of the world beyond your pathetic bubble. Good luck with your little kiddos, many great schools in this great nation.
