This thread isn’t about tailgaters. It’s about people who don’t follow the universal rules of the road. It’s inconsiderate and dangerous. |
| I don’t buy the ignorance excuse, I think these imbeciles are small minded, miserable, evil little people who enjoy making others angry. |
Universal rules of the road include proper following distance. The reality of driving is that someone on the road with you is likely to do something stupid today. Parking in the left lane, passing without signaling, cutting you off. How you react determines what kind of driver you are. And if you respond to someone parking in the left lane by tailgating them, you are choosing to exacerbate a situation and make it more dangerous. |
Slow clap to the above. I'm one of the original PPs and I drive defensively. That means scanning, being predictable and being consistent. The reaction to these bad left lane drivers are that everyone who doesn't agree with them is an aggressive speeder. NO. We are watching you, watching flow, accelerating smoothly to pass, managing others to merge back in, and would appreciate it if you did the same. |
Yes, people always seem to want there to be a good guy and a bad guy in every situation, but the truth is that people who hang out in the left lane for miles going the speed limit and people who tailgate on the highway are all morons and they all cause dangerous situations for others as well as needless traffic buildups. |
You are speeding. What other rules don't apply to special special you? Stop signs? red lights? Leave earlier and stop being an agressive menace out on the roads. Every day some one gets killed by unsafe drivers. |
What would encourage you to be a considerate driver who follows basic road etiquette? |
It's like the people who act as "enforcers" and try to block people who get over at the last second. (First of all, a zipper merge is a thing). Even if someone is being crappy and passing in the exit lane or whatever, trying to block someone just makes the traffic worse and increases the likelihood you or someone else gets hit. If you're not a traffic cop, don't play enforcer. |
We're actually following this thing called traffic LAWS, not some made-up "road etiquette" so you can live out your NASCAR fantasy |
Wrong thread. This one is about people who don’t follow rules of the road: stay right, pass left - not a tailgater |
Again, if people in the left lane are already going at or above the speed limit, why are you still angry? |
| Awwww. What's wrong? You did not want to spend your time waiting in line for the exit but those awful other people that were sitting in line wouldn't let you cut in? You poor poor thing. |
Considerate drivers do follow road etiquette. And also the law: https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/thousands-cited-for-slow-left-lane-driving-under-new-law/49121/?amp “You should only be in the left hand lane when you are passing or overtaking another vehicle,” Virginia State Police First Sgt. Steven Mittendorff said. “Any other time, you should be over to right side of the highway.” |
|
People cruising in the left lane at the speed limit are far more dangerous than a person or a line of people passing at 10-15 mph above the speed limit.
There’s no legitimate reason to cruise in the left so move over. |
I’m not angry. Just trying to understand why they feel entitled to just stay there and block traffic. It’s dangerous and even illegal in VA. |
