DC isn't perfect by any means but at least it's close to the coast and has a booming job market, along with some mix of culture. Chicago is a slightly upgraded St. Louis.

Even kids from midwest (who are mostly represented in the Parchment data) favor coastal schools than Chicago or NW. Boosters should stop claiming that Parchment data is useless as the data-points are significant enough to show a clear preference. Neither school is that high in the pecking order of elite schools.

If you don't like Northwestern, just don't go...? Who are you people? Is someone forcing you to go to Northwestern?

Also, plenty of grads stay in Chicago, and plenty move to the coasts after graduation. Many others go to different regions of the country and even abroad. There's more than enough love to go around! Why are you all so obsessed with Chicago? Is it some weird inferiority complex because you live in Virginia, which people frequently mistake as a Southern backwater state?

Yeah it's funny because in many other circles Northwestern is known for having one of the more generous financial aid schemes in its peer group. I guess it's all about perspective and circumstance.

No, but the idea of repeatedly clamoring that Northwestern is an elite school turns us off, to be honest. We understand it is a good school. Most alums of elite universities don't do that. You don't see Ivy, Stanford, MIT, or Duke parents do that on the forums. The only ones crying the loudest for peer recognition are UChicago, Northwestern, and Johns Hopkins. And UVA parents too. A bunch of crybabies.

Who is repeatedly clamoring that "Northwestern is an elite school" except you? Very weird, borderline antisocial behavior. You need a therapist, and I mean that genuinely.

Can I ask why? I went to NU and it's in Evanston, not Chicago. Evanston is a suburb. Sure you can take the El down easily into Chicago but you don't have to if you don't want to.

It's an annoying hike if you live on a coast. Frequent complaint from both NU and UChicago families who don't live in the Midwest. And Notre Dame has football to fly in for ... a college like Boulder has gorgeous mountains ... if you're from a major coastal city, what's a draw about metro Chicago? Not much. Go watch the Northwestern football team get clobbered?

The only draw is that they can't get into better schools, duh. But somehow they always needed to frame it in a way that doesn't sound overly embarrassing, like "oh I picked Chicago because of the academics" or "DS picked Northwestern because he really loved the coastline or the journalism/music/biomed program." That's how things were 9 out 10 times.

Again, you sound really sad and bitter, and none of what you say actually reflects reality. Where did you go to school?

I went to an HYPSM, duh. All other schools are inferior in either outcomes or reputation. We are legion and you are not.

What a fine product you are. So proud of you.

Sad words of a HYPSM reject.

You're just jealous your kids didn't get in or you didn't attend one.

Get in where? You seem to have problems with critical reading. Maybe a remedial English class or two would help?

Duke has been lackluster recently. It’s endowment flopped and Durham isn’t really the most desirable place to be with young people all flocking to major cities like New York, LA or Chicago.

This is inaccurate. Duke is still adored by rich teens at my kid's high school with no affiliation to the college. They're good colleges, obviously, but I've literally never seen any teen adore Northwestern or UChicago. And your Durham disses are about 20 years stale. What is the Research Triangle? What did North Carolina's census numbers look like compared to Chicago? North Carolina is booming, Chicago overall is basically stagnant. Obviously Rust Belt flyover country college grads still pour into Chicago — but even that draw is being dinged by the rise of Nashville, Denver, and kids preferring the warmer Sun Belt.

Durham isn't exactly the most desirable town

Maybe 15 years ago. Now it's freaking awesome. There is so much fun stuff to do and it's a foodie paradise.

Durham's population has grown from 187,035 to 283,506 in just 20 years. Such a dead, ghetto town... umm, no.

You seriously need help for your obsession with this school.
