Great news for Northwestern.

The donation "will benefit several areas across the university, including the fields of applied microeconomics, business, digital medicine, neuroscience, global health, translational research at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and the redevelopment of Ryan Field."

Northwestern is a great school. And I say that as someone who got rejected 30 some years ago.

Northwestern has had several gifts in the range of $100 million, but a sum in the range $480 million is a first. Quite a difference between $100 million and $480 million.

They should out it towards reducing tuition. I am an alum who loved my time there but the tuition is ridiculous now and financial aid is stingy. Not worth it.

+1 My high stats child will not be applying because of the tuition costs.

Financial aid at Northwestern in our experience is very generous (DD graduated two years ago). The Forbes article mentions that of the overall capital campaign, "$436.3 million was raised for institutional financial aid, including $235.3 million for undergraduate scholarships."

Perhaps more money for FA was available when your child enrolled six years ago.
Net price calculator results sure were off for us. We couldn't swing the annual costs with our youngest headed to college two years from now.

Could very well be the case. University tuition costs in America are insane, I agree. Wishing all the best for your youngest.

More desperation from Northwestern boosters. That won't change the fact that it is still below UChicago in student or academic quality and NW generally loses all cross admits with Ivy+ schools except Cornell.

Ah, there she is! Was wondering when she'd show up. Hello, Jan!

But none of his kids went to Northwestern for undergrad. I wonder why? One went to Notre Dame, one went to Georgetown, and one to Dartmouth.

Chicago is consistently ranked below Northwestern in all rankings except USNWR. Please get a life.
