That’ll stop all these shootings, as well as the car break-ins and other nuisance crimes.
Bravo, DC. |
Police here don't stop shootings/ crime in any way. They respond to calls. Ask any current MPD officer. More opportunities and resources in communities do. |
Evidence? |
Responding to calls is what you’re going to have here *after* proactive policing stops. It’s already been greatly reduced in the wake of the BLM protests, with cops increasingly sitting back and not getting involved until called, with the corresponding uptick in crime stats to prove it. Now that defunding them is a reality, that’s going to become even more pronounced, and you will absolutely see the current spike in crime accelerate. Fine with me. Makes my close-in suburban home more valuable as people will start to flee the city in a couple years, looking for places like where I live. I’ll be moving in 5 years, and expect this crime trend will add a hundred or so thousand more dollars to my home value over the next half decade. |
| Any word on what they plan to do with the $15 million? Developer giveaways? |
| it's all about the optics, not the citizens. |
| Stupids do stupid things. Let’s See how life without police goes. |
| It's amazing how quickly the conservatives have pivoted away from "When you need help in seconds, the police are only minutes away." |
| Are they cutting it, or just reducing the projected increase? Bowser asked for an $18 million dollar INCREASE this year. MPD already has an operating budget of $500 million. |
Based on the current crime/murder rate I'd say life with the MPD isn't that great anyways. |
True but it can and will get worse. Imagine that. |
With appropriate social programs it can and will get better. Imagine that. |
DC Police spends a lot of money and man hours supportIng federal law enforcement. Hopefully the department will focus on the community and not sitting around collecting overtime in motorcades, hanging around federal buildings, etc, etc. |
And then we don't get reimbursed for that federal support work. SCREW THAT |
This is why drug houses don't get shut down. |
