Eye Candy: Just Kitchens

Hello, my friends!

I saw a comment that the original Eye Candy thread is too long and unwieldy. Maybe we could have a smaller thread just for kitchen inspiration?

It seems like a lot of us are planning (or daydreaming about) improvements to our kitchens. I have to confess that I'm thinking about it myself after being home for these last few months. Maybe this will flop, but let's give it a try. I'll start with some inspiration for my own kitchen. I'm happy to track down some pictures if you describe the colors or style you want to see!

ETA: If making a request, consider giving a color (or material) and the style that interests you. Keep it simple! If you only want to see ideas for your specific kitchen (find me a kitchen with one window over the sink, a door next to the fridge, and an island with a cook top), you aren't really looking for inspiration, you're looking for a professional designer.

HI EYE CANDY! We are going to be redoing our teeny tiny kitchen, at the center of a 1950s ranch house.

It's 11 feet by 11 feet, with one wall where the stove, dishwasher, sink, and most of the counters are. The other three walls all have openings to the rest of the house. On one of them there's room for a small counter and the fridge. We are thinking of adding a peninsula to one of the the others for extra counter space.

Can you show me any examples of weird kitchens like ours that work well?

Looks-wise - we live in a tropical area, and are probably going to put in brightly colored high gloss cabinets. We may close up one of the doorways just for the extra counter/cabinet space. We aren't sure yet about a countertop - probably either stainless steel, or a sort of terrazzo-like stone.

I realize that is a lot of info and it might be hard to find anything - but if you do have any ideas or eye candy inspiration that could help guide our renovation, I would be most appreciative.

Thank you!

I like the just kitchen idea. Eye candy, I look forward to all of your posts.

I'm thinking about using color in my kitchen. I thought I'd share a few colorful kitchens.

The backsplash isn't my cup of tea and this might be a touch dated, but I think there's interesting use of color and I like how they continue the cabinet color to the door and ceiling in the adjacent area.

The adjacent area:

They also used a cabinet-looking door for the pantry entrance.

I like it!

And have a similar question as above -- tiny kitchen with 3 entrances (one to the only stairway going downstairs). The mid-century architect clearly could not have cared less about the kitchen. Any inspirations?

OP, I LOVE that kitchen inspo - also love the "updated retro" vibe (is that a term - haha).

Small, but colorful!

Whoa, I usually don't like high gloss...

How did the stylist procure those bananas?

Not my style, but SO interesting if you like bold color

This might be the first lavender kitchen I've ever seen.

Feel free to make a request if you would like to see something.

No one is apt to like everything they see in this forum. These are people's homes and we're lucky they allow photographers in so we can get a peek.

It's not for me, but I find it so fun to look at! I like how the trim work is white in the man room, but then switches to matching the cabinet color in the pantry and eating area. Just a small detail that makes things interesting.

I am the PP with the small kitchen. The two turquoise kitchens here are so up my alley. They are both bigger than our tiny kitchen but good inspiration! Thank you!!

Yay, EyeCandy! Request for you. I am in the middle of a kitchen renovation (literally, walls are coming down as we speak). I have everything picked out except the backsplash and need inspiration. Some details:

Walls: SW Gray Screen (which can skew blue or gray, depending on light and surroundings)
Wall cabinets: White shaker style
Island cabinets: A stained dark, dark gray
Countertop: Blue Pearl granite
Floors: Chocolate wide-plank hardwoods
Lights/fixtures/handles: bronze

Because the paint and counter have a bluish tinge to it, I'd like to pull a stronger blue-gray into the backsplash. There won't be much of it used as it's a fairly open kitchen without a lot of wall, but lots of windows. Any inspiration to share?

Also curious where people like to shop for tile around here. Preferably Nova.

I just love the green kitchen with the bananas, and I would never think to pick that color!

PP, blue pearl granite is quite heavy with blue and black. I'd be careful going "stronger" blue-gray.

Then you didn't see mine before we demolished it. The tiles, cabinets and counter had a mauve/lavender color.
