Hi, Eye Candy OP. Thank you for sharing your talents with us! If you are still here, I would so appreciate your help. We're planning a kitchen reno and I'm stuck. Kitchen is open to living room (kind of a big rectangle). Do you have any inspiration images with a layout like this? Thank you!

Not knowing if you want traditional, transitional, modern, etc, I'll just look for a range.

This is an insanely great thread.

What are everyone’s thoughts on white kitchens? So many white cabinets and carrera quartz countertops. Is has a clean look but if not done right, can look sterile.

OP, we are in the midst of redoing our kitchen. We are selecting a carrera quartz countertop, light brown wood floors (engineered HW), and we came across a cabinet color that’s a beautiful light brown/gray (lighter than the floors). I was originally concerned about the lack of light grey/white but found myself gravitating towards the light brown/gray cabinets.

Can you curate some pictured for me?

OP, I’m so happy you are here. We are just beginning to plan our kitchen reno. I was planning grey shaker cabinets, white counters and white walls. But, I feel this is pretty “cookie cutter” right now. So, I’m thinking dark blue cabinets and everything the same. We will need to live with this for at least ten years, so I need something I won’t get tired of. I’m not very adventurous, do you think blue would stand the time? Thank you, this is my first kitchen redo and I am excited, but scared.

I'm looking at high gloss cobalt blue cabs with white quartz for a galley plus peninsula kitchen. Want modern, sleek but wondering if it will seem too much. Home has high slanted ceilings and kitchen is essentially a box that sits between dining and living room which makes kitchen even more of a challenge.

There’s definitely already a post with blue cabinets here.

I just painted my cabinets BM Grenadier Pond, it's a sage green with a bit of blue. Knobs are simple wooden knobs painted the same color. The walls are BM Timid White.
I didn't do a reno- just the paint. Floors are still basic beige terra cotta squares and counters are still generic brownish/beigie-sh granite. But the fact that the cabinets are no longer a dated honey oak makes a huge difference. It looks homey and old-time Martha Stewart.

We have a large ‘90s kitchen with a 6-burner stovetop on an island with a downdraft fan. When we renovate, DH wants to put in an overhead vent. I generally don’t like the way vents look over islands (they tend to break up the room). The other option is to move the gas and water lines so we can relocate the new range to a wall (which would require that we move the sink and/fridge too) but I’m having a hard time convincing him to spend money on that since he cares more about function than form. Can you find photos of attractive vents over islands that don’t ruin the overall look of a kitchen? My style is transitional. Thanks!

You want to move the cooktop out of the island, but you want me to find pictures that don't support that?

For what it's worth, I don't think you're going to find professionally designed kitchens with the UFO-style exhaust coming down over the island.

Thanks. I’m going to work on convincing him to reconfigure so we can do a range against a wall. I have seem some vent hoods over islands that look less bad than others but it’s generally not a great look.

What about one of those vents that go in the ceiling like:

Sorry, I can't link the picture.

Your project might be done, so I'm not sure this is helpful, but let's see if there's anything new in the brown/grey world.

This one is def more brown than grey.

I love blue and am probably the wrong person to objectively tell you about it's longevity in kitchens. I find blue kitchens so appealing and I'm not sure my taste will change!

Though some people say two-tone kitchens aren't going to last, you could always go blue with one part of the kitchen and then the option is there to paint it white if you get tired of it?

OP, are you still here? Thank you for all the beautiful images you’ve shared. Can I beg of you for some black or dark counters in kitchens? Thank you!

Not sure about your style for other parts of the kitchen, but here are a few ideas...

This last one is by Heidi Piron, one of my favorite kitchen designers. Her work is so interesting to me. More pictures here on her website.
