people that keep looking to the past will never see what future has reserved for them.

People who forget the past will never understand their present or future. There you go... philosophy on a bumper sticker!

it's not about forgetting, it's about letting it go.
if you have basic reading skills you understood that i never said FORGETTING.
it's very different living attached to the past with bitterness and anger or looking back with hope and proactiveness.

Ok- so now you're moving from pseudo-philosophical bumper stickers to unabashed pop psychology. I am so not taking the bait tonight. Maybe tomorrow. Probably not.

My parents are from the Netherlands. Smoking a little grass is not that big a deal where they are from. In fact they are near 70 and in perfect health, and very, very happy. My life wasn't ruined at all. I had a wonderful childhood, have two degrees, love my career and have a wonderful family. And I confess I smoke one on my birthday and anniversary. Oh no, my life is ruined! Throw me in with the rapists and murderers.

The problem is not with a health habit.
Once you're in the US such habits are AGAINST THE LAW. What will ruin the person's life is not "smoking pot", but the consequences and implications of such attitudes when facing charges for your "cultural health habits".
Tell me if teenagers here, in this culture have the maturity and the need to "smoke one" occasionally. They're not even allowed to drink before age 21!
Reality is knocking on your door.
Do you think the prosecutor will care if you did it in a "recreational" way?

now, about the part in bold... different people have different tolerance levels. just because it didn't harm them you cannot use it as a ground rule to convince the world that it's ok to use it indiscriminately.

Yes!!! 11:08 needs to get laid! Please, go have sex, take your time, then do it again, take a shower and come back. I'm sure you're gonna have a less strict view.

i wonder what the prosecutor will tell you if you say that in court.

The reason why impacted groups keep bringing up the atrocities in the past is because the majority does not seem to understand that while most of them never have or no longer act/think/parent in a way that negatively impacts any group (ie Jews, blacks, native Americans, females, etc) a significant portion of the majority group does. I would not suggest that most of the majority group does, but a large enough percent does to where prejudiced behaviors are not merely isolated incidences. The hatred expressed by the shooter yesterday gets played out in numerous, less stunning ways on a daily basis.
