Looks like a new Gaza war has started

Israel and Palestine are the powder kegs that will inevitably ignite WWIII.

Is it known how/ why they were able to cross and take so many hostages? Where was the defense?

I don’t know the answer, but the attacks didn’t seem isolated. They were widespread.

It was Shabbat and an important Jewish holiday. I don’t know if that had an impact.

This was a complete failure by Israeli intelligence and the IDF. Some it is Bibi's own doing. There is so much acrimony with Netanyahu and security forces that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. But in the end, people do need to their jobs. This was a failure of imagination. Of diligence. Of professionalism. The holiday, of course, was a big reason why those bases were undermanned. Most regular soldiers were on leave. So it was a skeleton staff of mostly reserve soldiers. Feel terrible for them. Presumably, a lot of IDF officers will be losing their careers over this.

We will have to wait for the investigation, but I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that IDF units were pulled away from Gaza over the past weeks and months to deal with the emerging shitstorm in the West Bank. Wildcat settlers have been empowered by figures in the government like Bezalel Smotrich who have designs on annexing the entire area. Playing whack-a-mole with the wildcat settlements and other provocations - like the 200 ultra-Orthodox who stormed Al-Aqsa a few days ago - has been keeping the IDF more than busy. The IDF is no small force, but still can’t be everywhere at once.

Sure, most of the army was pulled away from the uncontrolled area with the militants and the rockets to defend against stone throwing teens in the West Bank.

Your lack of knowledge as to what has been going on in the West Bank over the past few months devalues the conversation. The situation there was on the brink of boiling over.

The brutality in Gaza comes from inside the house. They get bullion in aid and Hamas diverts almost all fund to built their arsenal. They threaten the Gazans when they bring explosives into their houses. Do some real research. They are at was with the weakened Palestinian Authority. You’re not tracking who this is helping.

Hezbollah now firing on Israel

Who are rallying in support of Hamas again in America? Democratic SOCIALISTS of America.

Lebanon’s terrorist group Hezbollah said Sunday that it fired off guided rockets and artillery in the Shebaa Farms to show they stand “in solidarity” with the Palestinian people, Reuters reported. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Sunday that IDF “struck targets in the area” after Hezbollah, an Iran-backed group, fired rockets into their territory.

This is bad.

Lebanon has been unstable politically and economically for quite some time. While its citizens are divided on their support for Hezbollah, it doesn’t really matter…because thugs gonna thug.

Hamas and Hezbollah can attack on two fronts.

ICYMI: a British citizen was kidnapped by Hamas (from the Israeli rave). He works at the British embassy.

And two Israeli citizens were gunned down in Egypt yesterday.

Anyone who attempts to defend Hamas—a terrorist group—will be on the wrong side of history. Do not conflate hamas’ attack with the never ending debate about map borders.

We have increased police presence in Jewish areas in the US. If anything happens on US soil tied to hamas, Hezbollah, or any other Arab hate group then I wonder how American free Palestine supporters will feel?

These poor people. I shudder to think the fate that awaits them.

What was Israel expecting? They’ve brutalized and humiliated these people for decades. They’ve given them no hope. When you keep torturing a caged animal, you’re eventually going to get bit.

War is ugly and innocent lives are taken in every war. There's no it's sad and it's awful it's what war is, once that is declared everyone gets hurt until one side can't fight anymore. So let's see what SA does. Without their support, it will be quick but with SA on board, back to bloodshed. I condemn it but I understand that it's Arabs leverage in giving Palestine a chance. Let's face it Netanyahu hates them and would never try to make anything better - he's as bad as Hamas really.

It is important to point out that this was started by Hamas.
Killing innocent people and parading them around like trophies. They are savages. Maybe there is a reason they are disliked.

And, don't try to "both sides" this.

Hamas isn’t even liked by majority of Palestinians in the West Bank or in the diaspora. There are relatives of Hamas members who live in the West Bank and denounce Hamas completely.

There’s an ideological divide between Palestinians who want a soft war against the Israelis via media and PR , and the hardliners who want actual fire and brimstone upon Israel.

I feel bad for the innocent kids. I also find it horrible how all the top Hamas leaders make sure their families/kids don’t live in Gaza. They live comfortably in Qatar or elsewhere safe from the disaster. How convenient .

The AP has some polling about this. 45 percent of Palestinians support Hamas. However, most its support is concentrated in Gaza. West Bank Palestinians are not as enthusiastic about Hamas. It's been 15 years since there have been elections, but the last time there were elections Hamas won comfortably in Gaza. The West Bank went with Fatah instead. A choose your poison election. But it would be wrong to suggest that Hamas does not enjoy popular support in Gaza. It does.

I think it’s a right wing patriotic fervor. Hamas is the first Palestinian army . They only had kids throwing stones at soldiers until fairly recently and I think in the West Bank that’s still all they have.

Then there was the failed intifadas and bus suicide bombings.

Hamas changed that all up and created literal tunnels and bought and sometimes created rockets themselves underground somehow all with the international condemnation of the world and dismay from half of their population. Something Yasser Arafat couldn’t even do with international support and unanimous love and support among the majority of Palestinians .

They have the backing of Iran. Make no mistake, Iran is deeply involved here.
I was hanging out with an Iranian friend of mine yesterday and he’s pretty anti Israel but asked if my relatives are okay, and he fullly admits the weapons come from Iran

So does Hamas.

Palestinians reject every peace off they get. In 1967 after the six day war Israel offered all lands captured in exchange for peace and the Arab nations responded with the Khartoum resolution. Also Arabs didn’t give Palestinians a state between 48-67. They never cared about Palestinians but use them as pawns against each Israel

You forgot to point out that the terrorist was careful to cover the poor woman’s hair before carting her away…because ya know…religion.

Most videos of Hamas during the attacks and kidnappings include terrorists chanting allahu akhbar.

This is terrorism fueled by religious extremism.

Do not forget that piece.

They’ve suckered in supporters with boo-hoo talking points about borders, apartheid, etc., essentially making a human rights argument. But it’s not.

Hamas is a terror group who strategically attacked civilians. They are committed to the destruction of Israel. By Israel they mean Jews.

This is a holy war. Jihad. This is not a justified fight for stolen land or human rights ffs.

And Israel fully handed over all of Gaza to the Palestinians. Instead of using the aid money to build a functioning society and show that they could live in peace, they built tunnels and bombs. Also Egypt borders Gaza and Jordan borders the West Bank. They keep those borders closed - why don’t they want to help ensure they are positive, good places to live? Because they don’t actually care about Palestinian people. They just want a common refrain to keep their people in line, too, and supporting corrupt regimes.
