We have a fairly engaged community. They weren't interested in either candidate.

Guess that's what happens when the bullies/MAGAs scare away all of the decent candidates.

Don’t forget that if not for the Dem caucus the pool of candidates would be much larger. How many federal employees have been basically shut out because Arlington Dems insist on this process?

Once again, someone failed to actually READ the Hatch Act.

Can we stop with this misinformed nonsense about why Symone couldn’t run already? It’s been three years!

I am a registered Independent and went to vote yesterday, but they require a statement of affirmation that you are a Democrat, so I didn't vote. I am new to Arlington and was told I could vote in primaries but didn't realize I couldn't in this one. Now I know.

It’s NOT a primary. It’s a caucus.

Yup, this is very average turnout for one of these. They never go over 2000 except when they did mail in and online during the pandemic. The low turnout is a feature, not a bug. The ACDC doesn’t want the general population to choose the candidate.

Although I still think Symone knew about the Hatch Act restrictions. She has been a fed govt lawyer for over 20 years. She just didn’t think anyone would call her out on it.

That said, I’d still prefer Symone over MT or the anti-trans guy that we now have running. Maybe someone else will step in and run as an independent?

In VA, there is no registry by party. That’s why primaries are open for anyone to vote, regardless of whether you self identify as I, R, or D.

Yeah, you have to hold your nose and do it as an Independent. The way I see it is, for the purposes of the Arlington School Board race (and almost all Arlington races), everyone in Arlington is a Democrat. The alternate is to have no vote that matters at all. So that's how I sign the pledge. (Also, it's not enforceable in any way.)

It is tough for people whose jobs prevent them from signing this kind of a pledge. My spouse is a journalist and couldn't vote because she can't sign this kind of a pledge.

I was on the fence about Miranda Turner but I have seen too many nightmare things across the country that conservative school boards are doing. The republican strategy of taking over school boards has been pretty successful and very terrifying and Miranda is basically it for APS. Sad because I'd love a shakeup.

Well, look what happened with the last gubernatorial election.

We could have had a change without a MAGA/bully ally.

If 1/5th the time of everyone on this forum was put toward that end, maybe we could make some improvements.

Are Miranda's hateful supporters going to stop their attacks on parents, teachers, angelo supporters, school board members?

Not based on DCUM threads.
