Arl Dems Caucus Endorsement - School Board - In the Candidates' Words

Please. If it were between these two candidates would you really vote for the 22 year old who just graduated from college and just moved here and has literally zero investment in our community? I feel like his candidacy is one big slap in the face to how ridiculous our SB and its election have gotten.

Yup. He’s actually a contender because we don’t have better options.

If Angelo truly thinks the school board doesn’t understand good equity issues in APS, he clearly knows nothing about Bethany. His candidacy is ridiculous.

Ugh, *food equity

Agreed. This issue is well-represented at both the school board and county board level. Next.

Loudoun had a similar candidate. Just out of college, interested in equity. This candidate had resigned from a group in college because he was in the room while some things were said that some found to be racist(a person in authority complaining about the Black Students Union). He picked up the Dems endorsement and was on the sample ballot. This caused the Dem incumbent who was running as an independent to lose by less than 100 votes to the Republican.

She's not being truthful. She said she has a rising APS middle schooler, but she says right on her website that this kid is not in APS.

I don't have a lot of tolerance for lies or half truths.

Her website states that child returning to APS for middle school. It’s accurate to say she has a rising APS middle schooler.

She knows her stuff too. Opposed to youngkin trans policy, supports APS policy, addressed the literacy needs and achievement gaps of our kids. Lots of details. She’s done doing her homework.

It's shady and evasive to say you have a "rising APS middle schooler" when the kid is in a private school!

I didn't appreciate Miranda's references to Drew being her neighborhood school when she took pains to NOT SEND HER KIDS TO DREW.

signed,

I don’t know either of these candidates but a lot of people put their kids in private during the pandemic. This was a once-in-a-lifetime tragic event and people did what they felt was best for their kids within their means. He’s coming back and she’s being truthful. This is a non-issue if I’ve ever seen one.

Even one of our current board members moved kids to private school during pandemic. Might even still be there. I don’t know. Not sure anyone ever talked about it. Her website is clear that one of 3 children is in private and that child is returning to APS for middle school. Ergo a rising APS middle schooler. Move on.

Oh and that SB member moved the kid AFTER the decision to close schools happened. And it was never treated like the scandal it should have been.
