Absolutely
Agreed
Make sure you are registered as a D and VOTE in the PRIMARY. That is our general election around here.
If Jawando gets through the primary, it is too late

I watched that video and that kid didn’t have a chance, did he? He still needs to be punished to the fullest extent but It was eye-opening. They weren’t even a little bit contrite.

I reject the “he didn’t have a chance” premise. Many kids are raised like that and DON’T shoot others. He’s in HS - old enough to be out in the world and learn that shooting people is WRONG. There is something fundamentally wrong with him.

He’s being raised in one of the most affluent counties in the country with a top school system surrounded by good people even if his own family is lower class and lacks class. Opting to shoot someone tells us he can’t be trusted. Reckless and violent. Sad.

I had no real view on Jawando until I saw him on Don Lemon after the terrible incident with the two MCPD officers in the elementary school went viral. I had watched the entire video of that episode and thought the two officers behaved terribly — extremely in professional and like they had no idea of child development. But Jawando said a bunch of things that were just not accurate—I got the impression that he had not actually watched the video, but instead only watched the clips that were on the news. I was shocked that he had not taken the hour to watch the whole video before appearing on national TV.

Also, that episode was such a good example of why we need officers trained in how to deal with children in distress that are tasked with being the responders for such calls.

Yes, there’s something fundamentally wrong with both him and his parents. As I said. He didn’t really have a chance.

Independent here who switched to D two years ago to make sure that I had a voice in determining the democratic candidate. Everyone knows this county will always vote for a democrat so you might as well be involved in choosing who.

+1 I started the thread in Local Politics for all Independents and Rs to switch to D for this reason.

We are never going to get a R in any leadership position in the county. That doesn't bother me that much, but what bothers me is that the uber progressives are destroying our schools. As someone else stated, local politics have more of an impact on your daily life than national politics.

Don't fret over what party you are registered for. Fret over what is in your control - local politics. Switch to Dem and make your vote county by voting in moderates. That is the best that a R in MoCo can do for themselves. Otherwise, you are just throwing your vote away, and not trying to do something about bringing the county back to the middle.

Someone put up some facts about the % of Rs and non party affiliated voters in the county. Combined, and with a small slice of registered Dem, we can vote in moderates.

It's easy to switch parties in MoCo. I did it during the 2016 election to vote for anyone else but Trump in the R primaries, then switched back to have a vote in local politics. Don't just whine and complain about the direction of this county. Go vote and do something about it.

Jawando condemned an an officer who shot and killed a msm running at him with a knife. On camera .

As a magruder parent, it was very emotional driving my kid to school, seeing the news helicopter circling. I was suprised to see a ton of police out there, in support of the kids. One officer held a sign, "you are loved."

It was really wonderful to see, very moving.

I also want to thank the entire student body for wearing blue and gray/white today in solidarity and support of Magruder. It really matters.

Everyone responsible for not aiding the victim should receive punishment commensurate with their level of involvement.

Totally agreed.

Not providing aid is not punishable. Reprehensible, sure. But not a crime.

"Punishment commensurate with their level of involvement" is all that's needed if they were involved.

Actually it IS a crime. It's called aiding and abetting after the fact.

No it’s not not. Also it’s unlikely misprision of felony is a crime in md

Bad things are happening at multiple schools, not just this one. If it was done in front of other kids, they may have been a part of it. We don't have all the details but it is a bit fishy.

MCPS needs to go in receivership and get a complete overhaul.

I think a poster on this thread mentioned her kid was in the bathroom when it happened. May have been a fake poster, or, perhaps not.

Kids need to be held accountable and taught pro-social behavior. Ideally in the home but failing that in the schools, community and churches. Even Marion Barry championed that. Consigning kids to be criminals/gang bangers once the cuddles and cocoa stops does them no favors and is rending the fabric of society itself.

MCPS - does it have an anti-gang task force? If not, one should be demanded.

That Magruder had repeated threats in Dec and such a flat footed response last week is unacceptable. The delays and minimizing re: the call could have made a difference in the outcome for the victim, still praying he recovers. They should have drilled and been on TOP of their game.

MCPD has an anti-gang task force.

There were witnesses in the bathroom who neither told officials nor called police. There’s a serious dysfunction there and if it isn’t addressed this will happen again

That’s my point. You want to celebrate the students whej it was students that allowed this to go on for hours because they couldn’t bother notifying people fricials that their classmate got shot. If this snitches get stitches attitude is pervasive at magruder then there will be other incidents . How will you feel after another incident? That’s why you should care .
