Looks like a new Gaza war has started

Yes, but it does matter who did it.

I 100% condemn Israel's atrocities. They are war criminals. I am 40+, female, attorney, and make a good amount of money. The more education you have about the region, the more likely you are to understand that Israel is not a good actor.

My far right Christian neighbors, however, believe that Israel has the second coming of Christ on their side and God is working with them to destroy Muslims.

There is a large discrepancy in education here.

Interesting. Similar age/income/education here and couldn't disagree more.

Are you Jewish?

Most of my friends with higher levels of education and having any level or insight into the region have understood that Israel has created an apartheid state. The only lawyers that I know that disagree with me are Jewish.

Nobody who actually knows what apartheid is thinks that Israel is an apartheid state.

I do. I’ve lived in both Israel AND apartheid South Africa. In my experience Israel is an apartheid state.

Lots of countries, including most western ones, have legal distinctions and differences based on the legal status of one's presence in the country. Even green card holders in the US (permanent legal residents) cannot vote, run for office, or hold a US passport. That does not make the US an apartheid state.

I agree with you. I'm a 30 year old South Asian female attorney, also well-off socioeconomically. I attended a well-regarded IR program for undergrad, so have a reasonably good understanding of geopolitics and international relations.

This is a parody, right?

+1 same here.

+1 another one here.

My sense is that it's the young and naive who are more likely to be anti-Israel.

I've seen the footage of Munich, Entebbe, etc.

And white guilty liberals who espouse equality and quasi socialist ideas but don't want to give up their SUVs, European vacations or segredated schools and project their own self hatred into others.

If both of you consider this totally clear in terms of Israel being 100% in the wrong, then you could not have attended good schools for your education in anything related to political science or history.

I condemn civilian targeting on both sides, but recognize the need for two states here.

I am a 37 year old woman with an undergrad degree from Georgetown SFS and a PhD from a top 10 political science department.

Background-wise, I am half Ashkenazi, and the other side of the family is mixed (Asian, European).

I'm the second PP you responded to. I have the same degree as you do, so make of that what you will.

I won't speak for the other PP, but I didn't say it's a "totally clear" situation. I am condemning Israel's reaction to the Hamas terrorist attack to the extent that Israel is committing war crimes against civilians, and I agree with PP that the Israeli government has historically not been a great actor. Obviously I'm not saying Hamas is a good actor. You can condemn both.

DP.
Yes, it does. And, the evidence is clear it was Hamas.
Whether they did it intentionally, or the rocket was errant is unknown, but it came from the Gaza region.

Are you in public interest or government? Makes sense if so.

Most private practice/corporate attorneys I know are anti-Hamas, anti-terrorist (but would like to see a 2 state solution).

In private practice and also anti-terrorist, which is why I do not support Israel.

No, it's not. A PP asked about demographics on this thread, and I answered truthfully. What exactly are you trying to say?

Like not realizing that Jordan is a country, as opposed to someone's surname, not realizing that there are non-Jews in Israel, not realizing that Jews don't all wear kippas,

I had a Jew who is not very supportive of Israel tell me his marriage to a Christian wouldn’t even be recognized by the Israeli government, and that’s why he doesn’t like Israel.

I kinda just looked at him and was like “umm … your right of return extends to your spouse. She is entitled to Israeli citizenship too.”

I've notice that pro-Israel people barely ever seem to know anything about the Ottoman Empire and its involvement in the history of both the Jews and the Palestinians.

Hope the death of 500+ civilians today quenches Israel’s thirst for revenge.

Abbas has canceled his meetings with Biden.

It's a Christian hospital. It's largely staffed by Doctors Without Borders. Israel is not targeting that building.

Abbas has just cancelled his meeting with Biden and the West Bank is presently rioting. This hospital strike is working out very well for Hamas.

I would hope that is the case (that Israel did not authorize this barbaric attack). Mainstream media are reporting it as carried out by Israel though.

It sounds more like a a Russian move (they bombed hospitals and clinics in Syria also). Russians were recorded training HAMAS fighters.

Is there any proof as to whom authorized this terrible act?

All of the evidence Israel has put out to claim it was not them has either been deleted or debunked.

They have lied from the beginning.

So Israel hit it first, 40 minutes before the obvious Hamas missile misfire that came later? And when Israel hit it there was no smoke or fire present?

Sure, sure. "Debunked."

The Onion remains our finest news source.

Q: Where is the Gaza Strip?
A: Don’t worry about it. It won’t exist by the end of the week.

Q: How has the media approached the conflict?
A: Swiftly and irresponsibly.

Q: Am I allowed to be sad for all of the victims?
A: Absolutely not. You have to pick a side.

You couldn't be more wrong. DH majored in history before law school with an emphasis in this field.

Israel bombed a UN School this week. Israel bombed the Jordanian Field Hospital this week. Israel bombed the UNRWA storage facilities this week. Israel bombed the Rafah border crossing this week. Israel bombed 11 journalists this week.

Israel bombed the al-Ahli Hospital.

US and Europe fully own this Warsaw 2.0 ghetto massacre.
