This describes a lot of people who post on DCUM, though. The financial forum is filled with people who are like "we are just scraping by on 400k a year, btw we live in a 5 bedroom new build in Bethesda and send our kids to private schools but anything else is unacceptable, oh no pity us." Like this is the DCUM brand.

And the thing is, it doesn't appear Meghan made this show under duress or something. You can tell she likes doing this stuff and wanted to make a show that she thought people would like. I do think she's kind of pretentious and she certainly enjoys the royal title and pretention, but this doesn't feel like someone desperately hustling for money to afford their lavish lifestyle. It feels like she genuinely wants to create a lifestyle brand and actually feels passionate about stuff like making farm-fresh preserves and setting a table in a pretty way. And there is a market for that, and she's clearly targeting that market. She comes off like an ambitious business person who is working to create a product that is successful, which is extremely American and usually very lauded in our culture. So it's weird to me how many people are mad about it, regardless of whether this show or her brand are for you, when she's no different from your average Shark Tank contestant, just better resourced and connected because she was already a successful actor and then married a British prince. Shrug. She doesn't seem to resent having to work -- she appears to enjoy it.

The problem I have is that she doesn’t actually know what work is. It is the Blake lively problem. They think they want to do all these things, start these companies, create beautiful things, produce, tell stories, but really what they want to do is sit around and have dozens of staff who worked their asses off to get them ideas present really polished PowerPoints to them and have them pick something and sign off on it. It’s actually not work.

Disagree. Part of her problem in the UK was that she’s very hardworking and a go-getter whereas that is *not* the ethos in palace circles, where you have to act oh-so-casual and cool and get things done through the back channel. I think she got frustrated and that made her treat her staff badly.

“She made me hit her”.

Way to justify bad behavior!

She sent 5am emails, what a bully.
Can i roll my eyes harder?

Exactly. You also don’t have to respond to those emails. My boss emails me late at night. A response is never expected until the next day. Grow up if you think a couple emails at the ass crack of dawn is bullying.

+2. I send 5am (or 11pm) emails sometimes because I am busy. Luckily nowadays the “schedule send” feature exists. Apparently bullying = asking people to do their job instead of sitting around drinking tea all day.

The 5 am texts aren’t the bullying. Multiple credible reporters have all independently reported on the same thing - the Times, Vanity Fair, the Hollywood Reporter etc… all saying that multiple staff when they were in Britain and more recently in the US have dealt with severe bullying by her. These people are all locked into NDAs but she hasn’t sued so it makes the allegations very very credible.

I agree.

Murder by paparazzi, Epstein pedophilia, history of colonization... if I were her and Harry I would've spoken about the real issues and not who made who cry during a royal wedding.

The show isn’t about them. It’s about Meghan’s incompetent and insipid self.

It doesn’t seem Meghan thinks there are real issues and her idiot husband is brainless. There is zero evidence that their issue was a single thing beyond caring that William and Catherine got more of the money and better residences and titles and respect on the basis of primogeniture. Oh well, the Duchess will be fine.

I am really enjoying it! She is obviously the real deal, you can't fake that-- kindness and cooking skills no matter how good an actress one is. I don't understand the hate she has received and think it's a reflection of the hater.

I watched 4 episodes today. I wanted to like her, i really did. And to date I thought all the people / gossip columns / British coverage was her getting an unfair shake.

She presented quite flat. As if she was playing a character vs being herself. NARP (not a real person)

Didn’t really teach or show “how” to do anything. Not inspiring.

I get the criticism now.

This thread is full of posters making sh up.

Page 56 someone implies that Californians don’t host parties.

Page 57 someone says Meghan has no background in this. I’d say she was working on “this” since Suits/Tig.

I’m only on episode two. I’m enjoying it…it’s an easy watch.

My social media feed is absolutely loving it.

Honestly I have always been team Meghan and always thought the anti-Meghan rhetoric reeked of xenophobic anti-Americanism and a bit of misogyny.

BUT the Mindy Kaling moment in the show definitely seemed like a glimmer of the "mean girl" behavior everyone has talked about with her. I was surprised they left it in. It was so passive aggressive and cutting, and you can totally see how working for someone like that could slowly erode your self esteem and do a number on you.

A lot of the things she does are basic mom things every mom knows how to do, unless they are rich and really not handy at all. I feel like if she didn't want to share her real life, then she could have done a show like Padma Lakshmi's Taste the Nation. She could have even focused on LA, Toronto...Cities she knows really well since she lived in them, showcased local chefs and small restaurants. Less focus on her would have made her seem more humble.

She has zero talent. She simply married well. Massive mistake to cut off the hand that fed them both, with minimal work expected.

It's not just about talent, I don't think she's very bright. Saying things like broken things are beautiful and can be sealed or whatever, how cringe. She is beautiful and I belive the best dressed woman on the global stage, but she made a big mistake striking it out on her own. She doesn't have what it takes (poor Harry absolutely doesn't).

I do think she is bright, but her EQ is lacking. She is articulate when speaking out topics that require a lot of reading and interpretation. She comes across as phony in her show and if she were a great actress she could at least act authentic. She and Harry would have been off living a low key life doing charity work-real charity work and donating to worthy causes without needing to be in the public eye (while pleading for privacy). She wants attention desperately. Nobody cares what her kids look like, but she gives little snippets of the backs of their heads hoping we will be desperate to see them. If she wants to protect them, leave them out completely.

I agree that she is very pretty and dresses well. She could use that to her advantage at charity events.

Both of them need to stay out of politics and do their own good-work without trying to influence others. With the whole California fires, I would have been more impressed if they quietly hosted friends and volunteered without needing to have press there. They did not need to urge people to take in and help friends and family. People do that already and it's patronizing to assume they will only do that if these 2 tell them to.

I think her need for fame (while claiming she detests the attention) and her greed will be her downfall.

She is surprisingly socially awkward. That's what really surprised me watching it. She barely seemed close at all to some of her "best friends" like Daniel, and was bizarrely cutting and condescending to others. I dont think it was her intention, and honestly the whole thing became excruciating to watch at times because you could feel how hyper self conscious Meghan is and just kind of stiff.

There is a difference between being a "go-getter" and being rude. She was known for sending 5 a.m. texts to staff. Thar is not done in the royal family, so it was considered pushy and rude. You can call it "go getter", but in many places ignoring local custom is considered poor form. Maybe they just were not impressed that the "Suits" makeup artists put up with that pushy behavior.
Apparently, those unsophisticated royal staffers never read "The Tig" or they would have known about her significant cultural contributions.

They tried to introduce her to how royal life works, but she thought she knew better because she was so esteemed and respected in Hollywood (for work on her back).

Spare me. Most of those staffers were hired through connections and we saw their massive incompetence throughout the Kate surgery/photoshop saga.

The point is they had a clue how things worked in that institution, even if flawed, and she had no clue. But she did not want ro listen because she thought being a Hollywood c-lister was superior to the royal family. She's arrogant.

Um, it is. At least most c-listers got where they are because of some merit or quality. The royal family is full of grifters, not to mention colonizers and rapists in the past (and I’m sure present). They are worse than muck at the bottom of our shoes.

Well, who is living in a palace and admired all over the world and who is acting as Duchess of Montecito? I think Meghan's c-list gift did not work out so great.

God this thread is so sad. Not everyone who likes Meghan is her or a staffer.

Some of you are obsessed with this woman, and then you wonder why people like her just to push back.

And btw, Kate is running the most massive grift of all. Living in a palace doing nothing (no, doing some pie charts about early childhood is not work) and having it paid for by the British taxpayer.

+1 The most recent bullying allegations in vanity fair said she made employees cry and that she yells at people without raising her voice or something like that. The report filed against her during her year with the royal family echoed similar complaints. I’m also surprised she let them keep that scene in the show, but bullies are not usually the smartest people so there’s that.

Kate drags her butt up and goes and shakes hands at pre-schools, charities, and nursing homes. This is about 70 percent of royal life. Meghan could not even do that much without complaining to the media. She did not realize that she would have to do mundane tasks as a duchess. She thought she was Princess Diana v 2.0.

It's no one's fault but her that she married an unsupportive manchild like Harry and could not fulfill the duties and was stripped of the HRH.
