The history of crime against women has been such that the BF or DH is always the first suspect, even when a rich woman jogging alone in the dark in a crime ridden city gets kidnapped.

Others need to learn from this. There is zero reason to put yourself in that situation. She may have been a marathon runner but she was also a mother. She should have been more careful and been proactive about her security.

As a childless woman, my life is less valuable so I can run wherever I want.

Childless and unmarried? Yea, you can be self-centered and risky if you want — and pretend you can’t just rack miles on a treadmill or on a fitness center track.

I’m going to speak (type) slowly, because you’re clearly dim.

Distance
And
Marathon
Runners
Train
In
Real
Life
Road
Conditions
Not
On
Treadmills
Or
In
“Fitness
Centers.”

You’re welcome.

NP here
I get you pp. These people don't understand. They're the same people that call 5k color runs "marathons."

Well, she took a risk that she could be abducted, murdered and raped each time she went for a jog alone at 4:30 am in Memphis. And so at least she died doing something she loved to do. Now, was that love more than the love for her life and her kids? Who knows.

Once you are dead - game over, no take backs, no regrets, no second chances.

You also take a risk every time you get in your car and drive. Don't you care about your family? Why take the risk?

Or get on a bike or cross the street, for that matter.

Let's say that through some amazing miracle, she is found alive. Do you think after she recovers and starts running again, she will ever go at 4:30 am alone in the streets of Memphis to train again? I think not. If she survives and is healed, she will always take precautions to be safe, like running with a group of people, in the day time, probably armed etc.

Is it possible it’s not her body? Doesn’t it seem like one of thr presumably hundreds of law enforcement who know would have leaked the confirmation by now? 7 hours later. To like TMZ or Daily Mail or one of the local reporters they have rapport with.

What a senseless tragedy.

More information came to light. Everyone switched gears. What do you think happened? Nobody is doubling down on their initial instinct.

I guess it was too much trouble to wait before rushing to judgment.

Yeah. Because that’s how this site works. Guess you're new here. But at least those people aren’t harping on the victim, her appearance, her job, smile, running attire, home, etc.

You must be new here if you believe that.

Judgment is ok but only if i personally believe it. Is that the lesson?

Don’t jump to conclusions that make you look like an idiot is the lesson.

You do know that the biggest risk to women is their boyfriends and partners, right? Not marathon training.

Don’t double down on conclusions that make you look like an idiot would be the next lesson.

Sorry its logical to presume the boyfriend or husband. Are you dense? Who do you think the police look at first?

The police seemed to be searching the area around his alleged place of work as recently as yesterday.

Hard to say. I went to a college where a lot of kids were mugged and people basically laughed about it as the years went by. And many felt sorry for the criminals.

Are you for real? Abducted, brutally beaten up, probably raped ...no, does not compare with being mugged.

And yes, as tragic it is that this happened to her, and the criminal should never have walked. She made a serious mistake in her security and it has cost her big.

Clearly the mother of the alleged perp is to blame for all of this. Had his mother raised him better, he would have never gone to jail in the first place. Something needs to be done about his mother!

Why are people blaming the victim? Omg. Women have a right to exist outdoors without being raped and murdered. Women have a right to be alone outside, to run, to be, without being assaulted. The answer is not for women to cloister themselves even more.

Good article about the reasons for a the high criminal rate in Memphis. Nothing to blame the victim for.

The university's cross country girls team was also training and may have come across this creep. But since they were not alone he did not abduct one of them.

Opportunistic criminal. Eliza Fletcher was an easy prey for him.

Yes, ideally it's good to train with others. But comparing an adult woman training for marathons/ultra runs, with college students on a college team training for the 5k distance is absurd.

The adult woman has to fit training in between her job and kids. And her distances will be longer/longer times--it's hard to find another adult (also squeezing it in with kids/job) that will need the same distances/types of workouts as you AND have the same availability, every single day.

The college students have training time as part of their schedule. Training IS their "job"--as it is for their "co workers" (team mates.) They are training for the exact same thing. They have no kids.

Yup. They will sh1t on anyone they can with zero evidence. Usually they like to tear down the victim first.
