She meant you, the coach, KNEW that even if I land five quads, I wouldn't take gold, they wouldn't give it to me, not with what the other girls have shown. Eteri must have told her if you land this, you have a real shot at winning.

+1

In this case, I have to say I side with Eteri. She was absolutely correct: Trusova only had a shot at a medal, any color medal, if she nailed all her tech content. Without jumps, she is uninteresting. So if that's the mantra Eteri used to rev up Trusova's competitive mettle, she was absolutely correct. And honestly the girl ought to be grateful for her silver. It's a bit much to have her as a gold medalist in the presence of relatively well rounded Scherbakova.

Uninteresting? She's a Grade A B!t$h that skated to the Cruella Deville theme song. She is the epitome of the stereotype of a Russian woman.

I’m someone who rolls my eyes at conspiracy theories, but I also skated at a high level when I was young and I don’t know about this one. Certainly Kamila was rattled and in her head before she ever started and could make mistakes because of it, but the sheer NUMBER of mistakes and falls — I don’t know that I buy it. At least two times, she had a decently solid landing, not terribly crooked or off balance, them twisted her body and had yet another fall. Absolutely looked as if it *could* have been intentional.

The behavior of the silver medalist was disgraceful at any competition, let alone an Olympic Games, and what the hell does “you knew everything” mean? I’m certain we’ll never know and this will all get swept under the rug, just as it always does.

As Adam Rippon said “what a s**t show. OMG.”

Just saw the ceremony where they were being presented with their stuffed animals. Trusova held hers with one hand flipping an obvious, pronounced bird.

What an absolute brat.

Totally agree with this.

+1. They are pushing younger and younger girls to develop these advanced skills because puberty/changes in their physique fundamentally changes how they skate. So that's why the Russians are flaming out 16 and 17 year olds every Olympics. Make the age a hard 18 and let's get back to something more than mathematical formulas. We used to see skaters over two to three Olympics and you got to see them progress.

I watched the aftermath of the women's free skate. Valieva looked like a robot the entire time during her program. The Russian team was in a shambles and poor Anna Scharbawhatever - the Olympic Champion!! - was just left totally alone. You can watch the entire program on NBC Olympics. I didn't watch it all but I watched enough to observe that the Russian girls were all noticeably extremely thin compared to some other competitors. There was a Belgian skater - Loena ?? who was lovely. And a Georgian skater who had a really nice program as well.

What I’m confused about is if it was a conspiracy and the Russians didn’t want Kamila to be in a medal position because they wanted a ceremony for other Russian girls or they knew the investigation would conclude Kamila would not receive a medal, why couldn’t they just withdraw Kamila from the final event? They are good at cheating, then surely they could’ve come up with a fake injury or sickness for Kamila and withdrew her beforehand?

I really don’t know mindset of those abusing coaches but believe that they didn’t expect Kamilas final performance would end up with such a disaster and didn’t foresee chaotic drama unfolding on the TV.

It would be nice if Russia could just get banned from future Olympics

After watching all of this, I don’t think KV threw the competition on purpose. She just fell apart. The Russians would have pulled her with some fake injury otherwise.

The bronze medalist was the first one to hug the gold medalist. Then she broke down in sobs in that medalist area and Anna didn’t know what to do with that. And of course all the drama unfolding on the other side of the curtain. She just had no clue what to do with herself.

This pp is heartless. These children are puppets. I finally watched their performances on the ice and after. Three medalists in shambles, and a 15 year old who should be immediately shrouded from those who did this to her. The only chance this child has is to tell her story, and expose whoever drugged her. Coaches, parents, grandparents...don't care. It's her only chance to free herself from connection to the regime. The world will support her and lift her out of this hell.

This press person, a random stranger, protected her when the "machine" didn't.

Notwithstanding is the fact that there shouldn’t be Russian athletes competing in these game AT ALL due to their horrendous doping and cheating.

The whole idea of a “Russian Olympic Committee” just to get these athletes into the Games is preposterous. Russians are cheaters.

Russia, as a country and any athletes with Russian citizenship, should be banned from the next Games as well, under any banner.

It was already attempted ^^ , but Rusdia pushed back hard and pivoted with "ROC" as their banner.
There's a lot of nudge-nudge, wink-wink that goes on behind closed doors. And the IOC is pathetically soft and weak.

Curious to see what the headlines are posting in Russia this morning (although I assume it's already mid-afternoon there).
Supportive? Aggressive? Proud? Angry?

I don't think so either. Her coaches were pretty cold when she got off the ice too, and asking critical questions. The pressure of the Olympics is hard enough, throw in everything else and it's no wonder she fell apart. More than anything, I'm surprised that so many were surprised by the outcome.

Mike Tirico reviewed the Russian headlines on the broadcast last night, and they were all still 100% Team Kamila. In fact, they called it a "bitter gold" even though the country still took the top two places on the podium.

Where can I find a replay of the skating performances? I found Sherbakova's but basically every YouTube video of the whole program has been removed.
