You must not be following her other interviews. She just won the gold and wants to celebrate. Doubt she wants to stand there and repeat her "message". |
Supportive |
Thanks for sharing the opinion piece. I have been following this event, and at the end of the day, all three Russian girls are victims. |
Which interviews are you talking about? The one where she thought it was so cool that Peng Shuai's attended her event with an IOC official after being forced to recant and apologize to her rapist? The one where she said her critics were just uneducated losers that would never experience winning a gold medal, so too bad for them? |

Kamila Valieva and her family and not Eteri are going to take the fall for this.
Especially since Kamila and her family are Tatars (a Muslim minority in Russia that faces a LOT of discrimination and persecution, there's actually a word for it, Tatarophobia). |
That's ridiculous. First, Tatars are probably the least conservative of Russia's Muslim ethnicities. Second, there is a proud tradition of Tatar female athletes in performance sport, most notably rhythmic gymnastics and now figure skating. Alina Zagitova identifies as a Muslim (although clearly not observant or practicing). Kamila's faith, whatever it is, will not come into it at all. Kamila will receive the hero's welcome in Russia. |
There is a way to portray Cruella on ice but it involves more than putting the Cruella music on. No one knows what Sasha is like in real life so you do not come across at all well calling a 17-year old a grade A b_tch. |
Don't blame the player, blame the game. The skating powers have reshaped the rules to reward technical content- why is it surprising that the coaching cadre is working to produce athletes to score points under these rules? Change the rules, limit the quads, reward things other than jumps and watch the sport change. Anna Scherbakova has always had a waifish build. Kamila doesn't look unhealthily thin and Trusova sports an impressive set of upper body muscles. |
Baiul, Lipinski and Hughes have all retired before 17. It's normal to retire at that age, and it is certainly more common under the new system, because adult bodies cannot sustain that level of technical difficulty easily. |
Her message is "I love China to the extent that it will make me millions of dollars in endorsement deals" I think she's done nothing to counter that message. |
Three quarters of the Sochi doping bans on Russian athletes were annulled on appeal with medal standings restore. I don't know how to trust the enforcement system that is wrong 75% of the time. |
Interesting. How about Eteri Tutberidze? What do they think of her after the final showdown? |
She's won two golds and a silver, is obviously very smart, already has secured millions in endorsements and modeling contracts, is about to start raking in even more, and has a very bright future in front of her. I think she's entitled to brag a bit. |
Two of the greatest under the new system, Yuna Kim and Mao Asada retired in their mid-20s. |
Eteri is untouchable because she creates winners. |
