played for Giblin in the 1990'a. He built the GP lax program a player at time and a year at time.

These are different times. There's more parity than there was and a much bigger pool of players. Giblin didn't have that luxury and he faced a "rival" that had a 5 or 10 years head start and a captive group of Middle-schools he could develop.

It was Landon and then it was Landon and Prep. Now it appears there is much more competitive balance.

Cut the BS argument that Giblin was at a disadvantage to build a program at GP compared to Bordley at Landon. While Landon had a middle and lower school program, Giblin was at Mater Dei and all throughout the '90s and early 2000's it was very common for 90% of the graduating Mater Dei class if not more were to enroll into GP.

You facts are wrong. MD typically sent between 10 and 15 boys to Prep. There was no comparison between the athletes Bordley had and the ones Giblin had to work with until the mid-to late 1990's. That's when Prep collapsed the gap and the scores of games got much closer. 1997 and 1998 were one-goal games.

I know why Landon people are seniotive to this. While a good coach, Boardely's total record is significantly padded by the years where there was little competition, except for STA who ahd one dominating player.

Please ignore the above. No need to engage. Reality speaks for itself.

It's true. Bordley is a legendary coach, but most of his wins were cupcakes.

Bordley was a class act while Giblin acted like a total ass-hole on the sidelines. My son to this day still says he was the best coach and mentor he has ever had. He is now in medical school and he routinely checks in with the “old Man” as do several of his former players and students.

If it’s not for Landon, GP has no lax tradition. Bordley put the DC area on the lax map which during the 80s and 90s was predominantly dominated by teams from Baltimore and Long Island and update NY.

And while I was never a fan of a goblin and his antics, he also did a lot for lacrosse in the greater DC area.

Predictions for tomorrow?

My son played for sssa and was selected for the All star game on a year when both the landon and prep coach were on the staff. He was so excited to play for 2 renowned coaches. He couldn’t believe the difference between the two and was shocked that Giblin was so well liked by the Prep players. The way he treated and spoke to players that he had just met for an all star game was rude, hostile and unnecessary. Bordley was the complete opposite. A smart coach with perspective and great sense of humor.

Including the 20 something consecutive times landon beat Giblin even after he had elevated his program?

Back to the teams that are actually playing tomorrow for the title. Is everybody healthy? Didn’t bullis control the game from start to finish last time they met? I missed that game.

Bullis won comfortably the first time. SSSA had some significant injuries to deal with at that point, but who know if that made a difference or not (Bullis, too, may have had injuries). Hopefully both teams will bring their A games tomorrow and it will be a great game to watch.

I believe the Saints were missing two starters when they played Bullis earlier in the year. The Saints appear to be at full strength now, I expect a very close game between two very good teams.

The Saints took a 3-1 lead against Bullis early in the game but after that it was mostly Bulldogs. It was a pretty close game though with both teams going on big runs. It was not necessarily a blow out. Tomorrow should be interesting, the Saints do get some players back.

Lacrosse in this area would be 10 years behind where it is today, without the 30+ year efforts of Rob Bordley.

Bullis does not recruit any harder than Landon, Prep or SSSA does. They do have more mid-HS transfers than others, so I guess you can criticize them for that. Both most of the top kids who transfer to Bullis came because they were interested first, not that Bullis found them.

Last year (2018) Bullis got a senior transfer from SSSAS. It was known amongst the SSSAS team in 2017 that the Bullis coach was actively recruiting him and another player from the Saints, while they were in season. I don’t know him well enough to judge his character, but between this and the infamous “stick check” incident, it really seems like he’s willing to win at all costs.

The way I understand it, is that this stuff happens when players from two different schools play club together. I have no other knowledge of the situation, but it’s my impression that this starts with the boys.
Anonymous
It might start with the boys but Bullis gave a full ride to a private school transfer who didn't need the money. The school was divided and the family transferred out for his senior year.
